Despite the fact that Americans are still largely reluctant to trust artificial intelligence for health advice, it doesn’t mean that people aren’t turning to the tech to ease anxiety, get quick answers or dive deeper into insights that help them make sense of their well-being.
Major AI players are leaning into the wellness sector, with Perplexity being the latest company to buy into the industry shift. The AI platform recently introduced Perplexity Health, which helps users consolidate their health data in one place to create a clearer picture and tailored insights to their specific fitness and wellness goals.
As part of the rollout, Perplexity partnered with leading biomarker testing company Function, which enables members to securely upload their data to the AI platform.
Once users upload their health data — like wearable metrics and lab results — they’ll be able to tap into new features that unlock personalized insights.
Its key components include:
Health Review Agent that provides a holistic, unified view of a user’s health
Fitness Coach that helps build personalized workout plans based on current activity and goals
Nutrition Planner to create meal plans that incorporate both health goals and lab results
Sleep & Recovery Coach, focused on improving sleep quality with personalized guidance
Lab Results Interpreter, which includes a comprehensive analysis of test results with action steps
Visit Prep Assistant to help users walk into their next health appointment equipped with personalized knowledge and questions
As more health tools like Perplexity Health arise, users are naturally concerned about who has access to that private data — which is where its encryption protection and HIPAA-aligned safeguards come into play. The brand assures that it never uses personal health data to train AI models.
The platform also includes a library of curated articles based on how users have interacted with Perplexity in the past on various health topics, which include links to each source used.
Earlier this year, AI giant OpenAI rolled out ChatGPT Health, marking a critical push into the wellness sector among tech companies. Its launch was further supported by partners including Peloton, MyFitnessPal, WeightWatchers and more.
