Olly is moving deeper into the microbiome with the launch of Precise Probiotics, a new capsule-based platform designed to push probiotics beyond general digestive health and into more targeted, functional use cases.
Launching today, the line from the popular supplement brand introduces three formulations built around clinically studied strains aimed at supporting metabolism, stress and skin, reflecting a broader shift in the category toward more personalized, outcomes-driven supplementation.
“We’ve been watching the probiotic space evolve, and for a long time it was built around a single, broad promise of general gut health,” Shikha Snigdha, PhD, Olly’s VP of Science and Innovation, told Athletech News. “But the science has advanced to a point where you can approach it in a much more targeted way, and that’s what this platform is designed to do.”
From One-Size-Fits-All to Strain-Specific Probiotics
At the core of the launch is a shift away from one-size-fits-all probiotics toward formulations tied to specific biological pathways, including the gut-brain, gut-skin and gut-metabolism axes.
Each product in the lineup includes a shared foundation of strains supporting digestive and immune health, layered with an additional strain selected for its targeted benefit. The approach reflects what Snigdha described as a “clinical backbone,” grounded in human studies rather than in vitro or animal data.
“For every claim we wanted to make, whether that’s gut health, immune health, skin or metabolism, we looked for randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human studies,” she said.
That emphasis on strain-level specificity is increasingly becoming a point of differentiation in a crowded supplement market, where many products still rely on more generalized claims. As the supplement industry is notoriously under-regulated, Olly focuses on studies as a market differentiator.
Beyond the formulation, Olly is also focusing on how to communicate said science to consumers. The brand is leaning into packaging and visual cues to simplify what can often be a confusing category for consumers.
“One thing Olly does really well is make complex science easy to understand,” Snigdha said, noting that each product uses visual graphics to explain how the formulation works and what benefits it targets.

Investment in the Microbiome
The launch also signals a deeper investment in microbiome-driven innovation for Olly, which has previously focused on more traditional formats like gummy supplements.
“We’re only scratching the surface of what’s possible with gut health,” Snigdha said. “This is an area where we’re putting in a lot of investment, and it’s just the beginning for us.”
The move into capsules, a format often associated with higher potency and more complex formulations, also responds directly to consumer demand.
“We’ve had consumers asking for capsules, especially because they allow for different strains and higher loading,” she said, adding that the product development process was driven by both scientific advancements and user feedback.
The Olly Advisory Coalition & Olly’s Retail Strategy
Alongside the product launch, Olly is also unveiling its Advisory Coalition, a group of internal and external experts intended to guide the company’s strategy around emerging health trends and consumer education.
The initial cohort includes Patricia Bannan, MS, RDN, a nationally recognized dietitian and wellness expert, alongside Snigdha and Punam Patel, Olly’s Chief Product Officer. The company plans to expand the group over time.
The Precise Probiotics line will be available through Olly’s direct channels and at major retail partners, including Walmart, which has been expanding its wellness assortment in recent years.
“We believe in making wellness simple and approachable,” Snigdha said. “It should fit into your day effortlessly, not add complexity.”
