‘The Buccaneers’ Season 2, first look

The wait is almost over. The Buccaneers is finally returning to Apple TV+, Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Inspired by Edith Wharton’s unfinished and last novel of the same name, The Buccaneers follows the life a a group of young American women entering society and traveling to England to find eligible husbands.

Starring Kristine Frøseth, Christina Hendricks, Imogen Waterhouse, Alisha Boe, Aubri Ibrag, Josh Dylan, Matthew Broome and Guy Remmers, the first season left fans of the show desperate for more. Indeed, in the season finale, Nan St. George decides to leave, Guy, the man she really loves, to marry Theo, the Duke of Tintagel, in order to save her pregnant sister, Jinny, from her abusive husband.

Right before the ceremony, the girls walk down the aisle one by one as a diversion, while Nan walks Jinny to a coach in which Guy is also waiting for her, with two boat tickets. The latter promises to take care of Jinny, as he confesses his unconditional love to Nan. Cut to Nan, walking inside the church and about to become a Duchess, which will give her the power to protect her sister and her friends. In the meantime, Nan’s mother is warned by her husband that Nan’s biological mother has arrived.

Apple TV+ recently shared an official plot of this new season: “In the first season of The Buccaneers, a group of fun-loving young American girls exploded into the tightly corseted London of the 1870s…setting hearts racing and kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash. Now the Buccaneers are no longer the invaders—England is their home. In fact they’re practically running the place. Nan is the Duchess of Tintagel, the most influential woman in the country. Conchita is Lady Brightlingsea, heroine to a wave of young American heiresses. And Jinny is on every front-page, wanted for the kidnap of her unborn child. All of the girls have been forced to grow up and now have to fight to be heard, as they wrestle with romance, lust, jealousy, births, and deaths…themes consuming all women of any age, no matter what year it is. Last time we got a taste of England. This time we’re in for a veritable feast.”

A first teaser was released a few days ago, in which we can hear Theo say, “She chose me.” Guy answers: “Did she?” Yes, the love triangle is definitely back!

In terms of casting, the platform teased the arrival of Leighton Meester in a secret role in a video posted in October 2024. In an interview with TV Insider, Meester said, “The truth is, being a fan of the first season, I was so happy to come on to play any role! That being said, this is the best possible role that I could have ever asked for, and it’s going to be a secret until it comes out. Trust me, it’s worth the wait.”

Welsh actor Jacob Ifan (Rogue Heroes) and Greg Wise, who actually played Guy in the 1995 BBC adaptation of The Buccaneers, have also joined the cast of season 2.
