Tokenisation of real-world assets to drive crypto’s next growth wave: RootstockLabs

The crypto market may have seen volatility in October, but Richard Green from RootstockLabs believe the long-term outlook remains strong.

According to Green, institutional participation and the growing trend of tokenisation are setting the stage for the next phase of crypto growth.

Green said traders are currently cautious due to global events such as the upcoming US Federal Reserve meeting and US–China tariff discussions. He described the market mood as a “holding pattern,” with traders waiting for clarity before taking new positions.

Green noted that the recent liquidation of leveraged positions was not entirely negative.

One of the more encouraging signs in October was the continued entry of traditional financial institutions into the crypto and Web3 ecosystem. Green pointed out that major global banks—such as Citi, Société Générale, and Western Union—are now testing blockchain-based products and services.

“They are entering the space carefully, often through partnerships with experienced crypto firms like Anchorage Digital and Coinbase,” he explained. This approach allows them to explore stablecoins, tokenised assets, and blockchain infrastructure without taking on unnecessary risk.

According to Green, banks are beginning to view blockchain as a foundational technology rather than a speculative asset. “They are looking at how blockchain can improve back-office systems, payment networks, and data tracking,” he said. “That’s exactly how adoption should happen—step by step, across multiple functions.”

Green sees tokenisation of real-world assets (RWAs) as a major driver of crypto’s next growth phase. After strong progress in 2024 and 2025, he expects 2026 to bring even broader adoption.

“Tokenisation is no longer just a concept—it’s becoming part of mainstream finance,” he said. Companies like Securitise are building regulated infrastructure to make asset tokenisation more secure and transparent.

Green believes the biggest opportunities lie in less liquid segments such as private credit and fixed income, where blockchain can improve efficiency, transparency, and 24/7 trading. Large asset managers like Franklin Templeton and Apollo have already started exploring tokenisation for these reasons.

Despite short-term market corrections, Green believes the fundamentals of the crypto ecosystem are improving.
