Formula 1 heads to Imola this weekend for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the first leg of the European triple header from May 16-18.
As the series approaches the seventh round of the 2025 season, McLaren is still in control of both championships, having pulled ahead in the constructors’ standings to 246 points following a dominant 1-2 finish at the Miami Grand Prix headed by title leader Oscar Piastri.
Now the Woking outfit faces three tough weekends ahead that could either see them stretch their lead even further or open the door for rival teams to catch up, with every squad expected to roll out important upgrades this weekend in Imola.
Ferrari, especially, will be looking to turn their luck around on home turf after a rough start to the season – only racking up 94 points so far and sitting in fourth place.
It’s a big weekend for Lewis Hamilton too as he will be racing for the Scuderia in front of the Tifosi for the first time, hoping to pull off a solid performance to climb up from seventh place in the standings where he is seven points shy of Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
The latter, coming off a stellar sprint pole in Miami, will also be looking to deliver a strong showing in front of his home crowd and help Mercedes close the gap in the constructors’ standings. The Brackley outfit is currently in second place, 105 points behind leaders McLaren.

2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Start Times
Round seven of the season at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit at Imola kicks off with FP1 on Friday, May 16 at 1:30 p.m. local time (CEST), followed by FP2 later in the day at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, May 17, drivers will climb into their cars for the final practice run (FP3) at 12:30 p.m. before they fight for grid positions in qualifying at 4 p.m.
The 63-lap race will get underway at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 18.
