WellTheory Secures $14M for AI-Powered Autoimmune Care

WellTheory’s personalized autoimmune care platform has experienced 10x year-over-year member growth and 5x revenue growth in the past year

WellTheory has raised $14 million in Series A funding, reaching $26.2 million in total capital for its personalized autoimmune care platform.

The company will put the investment toward commercial growth, AI development and expanding its program offerings. The funding round was led by investment firm General Catalyst, with additional support from investors including 7wire Ventures, Ingeborg Investments, Accel, Box Group, Leaps by Bayer and Up2 Opportunity Fund.

Autoimmune care is proving to be an increasingly profitable market, valued at over $160 billion in 2024. Driving market growth is the rise of several autoimmune disorders, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel disease, which are proving to be costly for the over 50 million Americans who are diagnosed with one or more of these conditions.

WellTheory’s platform offers personalized lifestyle coaching and lab test assessments for patients struggling with autoimmune disorders. Coaches, including registered dietitians, provide one-on-one recommendations like shifts in nutrition or supplements to mitigate symptoms like pain, poor sleep, depression and digestive issues. For many members, there is no cost to enroll, as certain employers and health insurers cover the cost.

With the funding, the company will invest more in AI to boost its capabilities. Its AI Care Hub and Care Scribe make it easier for providers by aggregating lab work, symptom history and intervention timing to improve results.

“WellTheory is building the future of autoimmune care with a model that’s uniquely designed for today’s workforce,” said WellTheory CEO and co-founder Ellen Rudolph.

“Employers are facing rising costs, while employees wait years for answers on their own health — a frustrating journey I experienced firsthand,” Rudolph added. “By combining high-touch care with AI-enabled personalization, we’re addressing both parties, delivering a better quality of life for patients and measurable cost reductions for employers and payors.”

In the past year alone, WellTheory has seen 10 times year-over-year member growth and five times revenue growth, it says, while establishing partnerships with Fortune 100 and 500 employers and companies including Maven Clinic, Fortune Brands Innovations and Dayforce, as well as payors such as Sentara Health Plans.

The investment in AI tech arrives as other fitness and wellness brands are betting bigger on artificial intelligence’s role in health — Peloton just partnered with Twin Health to bring personalized workout recommendations to users of an AI digital twin.
