ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1438 Hints, Clues And Answer For Tuesday, May 27thBy Erik Kain

It’s another lovely day for a Wordle, especially since it’s Wordle Wednesday. Every Wednesday you don’t just get a Wordle to solve, I also hand out a special challenge: A riddle or brain-teaser to solve before we get to solving the main attraction. Here’s today’s:

A cowboy hung up his hat, tied a blindfold around his eyes, walked one hundred yards across a wide field and turned around, pulling the trigger of his rifle. The bullet went straight through the hat even though he couldn’t see a thing. How did he do it?

I’ll post the answer in tomorrow’s guide. If you come up with a solution, message me on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook. For now, we have a Wordle to solve!

The Hint: Northerly bears.

The Clue: This Wordle has more consonants than vowels.

Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

BRIDE wasn’t the worst opener, but far from the best. With 191 words remaining and just one yellow box, I decided to look for a word with two new vowels and I settled on O and A. For whatever reason, I had a hard time coming up with anything and eventually settled on VALOR. This worked out pretty well, slashing my remaining words down to just three. I could think of MOLAR, SOLAR and POLAR and I was pretty sure the first two had already been Wordles in the past. So I went with POLAR and sure enough, that was the Wordle!

Competitive Wordle Score

Today’s Wordle Bot

I’m a little surprised the Bot didn’t get this in three also, but I’ll take the win. 1 point for guessing in three, 1 for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. We’re now at a May tally of:

Erik: 22 points

Wordle Bot: 15 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“Polar” comes from Late Latin polaris (“of the pole”), from Latin polus (“pole”), from Greek polos (“axis” or “pivot”). Originally astronomical, it later referred to Earth’s poles. Now, of course, we often think of polar bears when we hear the word, or at least I do.
