ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1408 Hints, Clues And Answer For Monday, April 28thBy Erik Kain

Not only is today the last day of April, it’s also Wordle Wednesday! That means I have a logic puzzle for you to solve. Every Wednesday I dole out a new riddle, logic puzzle or brain-teaser to keep things fresh around here. Then I give the answer out on Thursday. Here’s today’s:

There are three boxes. One box contains gems. At least one box has a true statement and at least one box has a false statement. The three boxes are black, white and blue. The black box has a note on it that reads “the white box contains gems”. The white box has a note on it that reads “only one box contains gems”. And the blue box has a note on it that reads “only one box is true”. In which box are the gems?

Shoot me a message if you solve this now on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook. Now let’s solve this Wordle!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I had quite a lucky guessing game today. While FLOAT left me with 160 possible solutions, LINER slashed that down to just one: IDLER for the win! Huzzah!

Competitive Wordle Score

Today’s Wordle Bot

Credit: Erik Kain

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for beating the Bot. The Bot loses 1 point for guessing in five and loses a second point since I beat it today. That brings us to a miraculous April tie!

Erik: 15 points

Wordle Bot: 15 points

If only this had been 2XP Friday, I’d have won by a healthy margin. Still, I’m a little shocked I managed to catch up after being down most of the month. Double huzzah!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “idler” comes from the noun “idle” (meaning “inactive” or “lazy”) plus the agentive suffix “-er” (meaning “one who”).

“Idle” traces back to Old English idel, meaning “empty, useless, vain,” and possibly from Proto-Germanic idla- (“empty, vain”).

So, “idler” simply means “one who is idle.”
