Three Indian projects have made it to the weekly list of most-watched non-English content on Netflix for the week ending May 18. One Hindi film, one Telugu film and one Hindi show ranked on the latest Netflix global top 10 list. Headlined by Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar, The Royals ranked among the top ten on the list for the second week in a row while Jack and The Diplomat made their debuts on the list.

Ishaan Khatter-starrer The Royals received mixed to negative reviews, but the show has managed to woo the audience and secure their love. The Royals retained its spot as the third most-watched non-English film worldwide on Netflix for the second week. Netflix released the new list of most-watched content on the platform and three Indian projects – including The Royals – have made it to the list. Hindi film The Diplomat, and Telugu film Jack are the other two projects. Both the films had disappointing box office run when they hit theatres and also received mixed reviews.

Headlined by John Abraham, The Diplomat recorded 5.2 million views and 11.5 million watch-hours on Netflix. The film ranks fourth on Netflix’s latest weekly list of most-watched non-English films worldwide. Bad Influence, Extra Territorial, and Last Bullet rank above The Diplomat on the list for the week ending May 18. The film released online on May 9 and this is its second week on the platform. It also secured a place among top 10 films in 18 countries across the globe on Netflix and ranked on number one in nine countries. These include India, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Qatar, UAE, and Mauritius.

The Diplomat has been directed by Shivam Nair and written by Ritesh Shah. It is based on the real-life story of an Indian woman who was forced to marry and suffered domestic violence until she managed to get the Indian embassy involved. She finally escaped to India with the help of a diplomat, JP Singh (Abraham’s character). Sadia Khateeb (Shikara, Raksha Bandhan) plays the main protagonist in the film. When it hit theatres earlier this year, the film received mixed reviews and had a damp box office run.

In its second week on Netflix, the new Hindi web series The Royals registered 5.5 million views and 33 million watch-hours. The show retained its third position on the list of most-watched non-English web shows on Netflix for the week ending May 18. The Royals ranked on number one as the most-watched show in seven countries on the platform. These include Mauritius, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Oman, and Maldives.

The Royals stars Zeenat Aman, Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar and Sakshi Tanwar in important roles. Directed by Nupur Asthana and Priyanka Ghose, The Royals also stars Milind Soman, Dino Morea, Nora Fatehi, Chunky Panday, and Sumukhi Suresh in pivotal roles. Last week, the show recorded 3 million views and 1.7 million watch-hours making it to the third slot on Netflix’s list of most-watched non-English shows for its debut week.

The Telugu film Jack recorded 2.1 million views and 4.6 million watch-hours on Netflix since it released on May 8. It also made it to the top 10 most-watched films on Netflix across ten nations. These include Mauritius, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and UAE.

Directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar, Jack features Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Prakash Raj and Vaishnavi Chaitanya. Touted as a spy comedy, Jack was widely panned by critics when it hit theatres earlier this year. The film also had a dismal run at the box office before it ranked on the Netflix global top 10 list.
