Strava, the social app for active individuals with 150+ million registered users, is acquiring Runna, a U.K.-based tech company that creates personalized training plans for runners.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The companies will continue to operate their apps separately for the foreseeable future, while Strava plans to invest in both the Runna team and platform, CEO Michael Martin confirmed. Martin took the reins of Strava in January 2024.
The deal to acquire Runna follows a year of innovation and unprecedented growth, he added.
“It was the right time to look for complementary businesses that could create even greater value for our users,” Martin said. “Running is booming worldwide—nearly 1 billion runs were recorded on Strava in 2024. Runna’s mission to give every runner a personalized plan to achieve their goal is a perfect fit.”
Strava’s Year In Sport data found that running is the fastest-growing sport globally, driven largely by Gen Z. There’s also rising enthusiasm around racing, with 43% of Strava users saying they want to compete in a major race or event in 2025. There’s no shortage of options, from Hyrox, Yohka, CrossFit Games, Life Time’s 2025 Athletic Events and Nike 2025 After Dark Tour for women.
