Indian star Salman Khan is headed for another damp box office outing. His latest release, the Hindi film Sikandar, just managed to score $21.9 million in a week at the global ticket windows. Directed by AR Murugadoss, Sikandar hit theatres on the festive occasion of Eid, an unusual Sunday release.
Sikandar scores $21.9 million worldwide in 7 days
For the large-scale release on more than five thousand screens, Sikandar has not delivered the expected box office results. Given the limited number of Hindi films that have scored beyond $20 million this year, Sikandar has managed to secure a spot among the top-grossing Hindi films of 2025. With the $21 million collection, Sikandar is the fifth highest-grossing Indian film and second highest-grossing Hindi film of the year. Vicky Kaushal’s war saga Chhaava remains the top scoring Indian film of 2025 and will soon be streaming online on Netflix starting April 11.

Sikandar had an underwhelming global opening score of $6.3 million on Sunday when it hit theatres. In India, the film made $4 million on the first day, after collecting nearly $1 million in advance booking ticket sales for Sunday, March 30.
On the second day, Sikandar maintained its pace and totaled nearly $12 million worldwide. Completing three days on Tuesday, the film managed to score $16.4 million at the global box office. In India, the Salman Khan film grossed $11.9 million in three days.
Sikandar recorded decent box office numbers for the following working days – its fourth, fifth, and sixth ones at the ticket windows. The film’s seventh day box office number, however, was a disappointing one as it did not improve the numbers even on a Saturday. The film managed to score an underwhelming $21.9 million global gross by the end of its one week at the box office. In India, Sikandar had a seven-day score of $15.8 million.
Sikandar box office analysis
Sikandar is co-produced by Salman Khan Films and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The producers chose an unusual Sunday release for the film as Khan has a history of scoring big with his entertainers released around the occasion of Eid. Sunday and Monday were Eid holidays in India while Tuesday was a working day, making it a challenge for the film to score huge numbers. A lack of novelty in the narrative and treatment of the story added to the task, turning Sikandar’s box office run into an average one. Meanwhile, Chhaava and the new Malayalam release – Mohanlal’s Empuraan – continue to have a dream box office run.
Sikandar
AR Murugadoss who previously made Aamir Khan-starrer Ghajini (2008), has directed Sikandar. The new film features Salman Khan in the lead role of a former Indian king Sanjay Rajkot who is fondly known as Sikandar. Pushpa star Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife in the film. Two main antagonists feature in the film. Sathyaraj (Baahubali fame) and Prateik Smita Patil have played the negative parts. The film also stars Sharman Joshi, Anjini Dhawan, and Kajal Aggarwal in important roles. Murugadoss wrote the film with Hussain Dalal, Abbas Dalal, and Ratan Arora.
Sikandar is about a former Indian king and how his workaholic attitude turns into a humanitarian one. While the film fails to deliver wholesome entertainment package that Khan is known for, Sikandar does offer a cocktail of thrills, traditional family values, and Khan’s star persona.
