Ransom Canyon
Ransom Canyon, the new would-be Yellowstone series from Netflix debuted at #1 on its Top 10 list, an impressive feat, but now, at least temporarily, it has been unseated by a program that you may be able to guess.
That would be WWE RAW, but not just any RAW, the RAW after a Wrestlemania that beat the old viewership record by 114%, which is so insane I don’t even know where to begin (no, it didn’t air on Netflix). As such, you would fully expect the RAW the following day to be enormous, and I would not be surprised if this was the most-watched episode in the entire Netflix era since it landed the program.
Top 10
RAW always drops the next day, so it’s certainly possible that Ransom Canyon ascends to #1 again, and I expect it will. The Josh Duhamel/Minka Kelly romance drama seems destined for a second season given its no-doubt low cost and high performance. It’s sort of a given. The series has not reviewed great, a 54% critic score and an okay 73% audience score, but Netflix doesn’t care so long as the viewership is there. No, it does not seem like it will blossom into a full-on phenomenon like Paramount’s Yellowstone and its slate of Taylor Sheridan spin-offs, but any Netflix series to make it to season 2 is an accomplishment at this point.
I would probably expect the fifth and final season of You to land at #1 once it premieres in two days on April 24. The acquired Netflix series has done well and is a show that has actually made it to a conclusive end on the service, which only happens rarely. Reviews are not in yet, but it’s usually a very highly-scored series.
I just finished watching Black Mirror season 7, which is actually, surprisingly really good, and is the best-reviewed since season 1 (and its Christmas special). There are some powerhouse episodes here, especially Eulogy, which should earn Paul Giamatti some sort of limited series Emmy nomination this year.
The rest of the list has a range of series from a new season of Young Sheldon to a number of documentaries like Bad Influence and Diamond Heist. It was not looking good for The Residence for a while, but it has been a month since its March 20 review and it is still hanging on inside the top 10 list. That should land it a season 2 without question, though one has not been announced. Hopefully we’ll hear something soon.
