The low-price gym giant has opened 79 clubs in LA alone in the past decade and a half, fueled by franchise groups like So Cal Gyms LLC
Planet Fitness has made it clear that it’s one of the most dominant gym brands in Southern California, recently opening its 100th location in the Los Angeles area.
In the fifteen years since opening the doors to its first LA club, the high-value, low-price (HVLP) operator has opened 78 clubs, an average of about 8 clubs per year.
That has led to a massive LA footprint — especially given each location averages 20,000 square feet — with a combined total of 300 dumbbell sets, 300 barbell sets, 6,000 cardio machines, 8,500 strength machines, and 20,200 weighted plates across all 100 locations.
“Planet Fitness provides best-in-class equipment and a welcoming environment for every fitness level, to meet any goal, and we welcome the community to grow stronger together at this new location,” said Coleen Paradis, the vice president of marketing at So Cal Gyms, LLC, a Planet Fitness franchise that owns 22 clubs in the region.
“Planet Fitness offers a high-value membership and believes that everyone can get strong no matter where they are on their fitness journey,” Paradis added. “We encourage the local community to come check out our new location in Crenshaw and see what our unique, non-intimidating, and Judgement Free environment is all about.”

The 100th Los Angeles club is located in Hyde Park, and is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Planet Fitness recently made headlines with plans to raise rates for its trademark Black Card membership to $29.99 per month after its 2026 peak season, up from the current $24.99 price.
Ahead of the price-hike decision, the franchise is testing new premium wellness amenities, including dry cold plunge and red-light therapy machines, a move made to enhance value and set the higher tier apart from other membership plans.
Other potential offerings were announced to Planet Fitness franchisees last week at the company’s annual franchisee meeting, in addition to existing Black Card perks like massage chairs, HydroMassage beds and tanning services.
