With 10 indoor courts, pro-level amenities, and community-driven programming, PickleRage’s new Portage location marks its latest move in Michigan’s pickleball boom

PickleRage is planting its flag in Portage, Michigan, with a new indoor pickleball club set to open later this year. The 46,426-square-foot facility, coming to Romence Plaza, will bring the indoor pickleball club’s signature courts and community-first model to Southwest Michigan as demand for year-round play continues to surge.

The Portage club will offer at least 10 indoor courts, a player’s lounge and retail shop. As with all PickleRage locations, the facility will feature pro-grade CushionX courts, tech-enabled check-ins and reservations and a full slate of programming, ranging from leagues and clinics to lessons and social events.

“Michigan has quickly become a key growth market for PickleRage, and we’re thrilled to deepen our presence in the region,” PickleRage COO David Smith said. “The enthusiasm for pickleball here is undeniable, and our expansion into Portage reinforces our commitment to meeting that demand with best-in-class indoor facilities and a vibrant community experience.”

The club will be owned and operated by a local resident and avid pickleball player, marking another step in the franchise’s national expansion. PickleRage at Portage follows the franchise’s recent debut in West Bloomfield and precedes another planned opening in Grand Rapids. Altogether, the pickleball franchise – which is backed by GreekPeak Venture Partners – plans to open more than 200 locations across the U.S. over the next two years, and over 500 by 2029.

“Portage is a fantastic market for PickleRage—not just because of the size of the site, but because of the energy and growth happening in the region,” PickleRage VP of Real Estate and Construction Chris Daiss said. “This club will be a cornerstone for the pickleball community in Western Michigan, offering players a top-tier indoor experience that’s built to grow with demand.”
