Noah Wyle is staying in the ER.

Max has announced a second season renewal for the medical procedural The Pitt, which premiered on January 9 and follows one hour in a 15-hour emergency department at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital in each episode.

Noah Wyle, who was a mainstay on NBC’s long-running ER as Dr. John Carter, headlines the ensemble drama as Dr. Michael Robinavitch. Also featured are Tracy Ifeachor (as Dr. Heather Collins), Patrick Ball (Dr. Frank Langdon), Katherine LaNasa (charge nurse Dana Evans), Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Samira Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Dr. Cassie McKay), Isa Briones (Dr. Trinity Santos), Gerran Howell (med student Dennis Whittaker) and Shabana Azeez (med student Victoria Javadi).

“We’re excited and delighted with the audience response for our first season of The Pitt and can’t be more appreciative of our partners at Max and Warner Bros. Television for all of their extraordinary support throughout our first season,” said Noah Wyle and executive producers R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells said in a joint statement.

Unlike ER or any broadcast network series that is measured by Nielsen (with the ratings available to the press), results for a series on any streaming service remain mired in mystery. In other words, the success – or lack or – of a show digitally is often based on pure speculation. In defense of The Pitt, however, are the predominantly positive reviews.

The first season finale of The Pitt is on April 10. The series is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where JWP is under an overall deal. Joining Gemmill, Wells, and Wyle as executive producers are Michael Hissrich, JWP’s Erin Jontow, and Simran Baidwan.
