Nike is demonstrating its commitment to elite running with the launch of Swoosh TC, a nationwide network of distance running clubs with hubs in Utah, Oregon, and Arizona. Nike is no stranger to elite running, with some of the earlier innovations in footwear and competitive training. Swoosh TC is bringing the company back to its roots, investing in structured training programs, experienced coaching, and dedicated facilities for elite runners.
The three different clubs are Flagstaff, Arizona (for altitude benefits), Eugene, Oregon (for its proximity to Nike, Oregon University, and Hayward Field), and Provo, Utah. The head coaches of the groups are Jerry Schumacher, Mike Smith, and Diljeet Taylor, respectively. Some Nike-sponsored athletes who have their own coaches will have access to the Swoosh TC locations and facilities.
Nike’s initiative comes as other brands introduce new models for supporting professional runners. Companies like On and Tracksmith are also investing in the sport. On Athletics Club has a dedicated training facility in Boulder, Colorado and offers athletes health insurance as well as injury and pregnancy leave. Tracksmith has hired elite runners as full-time employees and developed an NIL program for college athletes.
The program also comes at a time when women’s running is gaining more visibility and investment, which Nike has been looking to strengthen. As the competitive landscape shifts, Nike’s approach appears to emphasize structure in training programs for elite athletes.
