Mötley Crüe’s “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” debuts on multiple charts in the U.K. this week, 40 years … More
Mötley Crüe is back on the charts this week with what looks like a brand new hit — though fans of the heavy metal outfit will know the tune is anything but new. The band returns to the competitive rankings in the United Kingdom with a collectible vinyl release of one of the group’s most beloved cuts, and the reissue has proven to be a must-have for collectors. The song surges onto a pair of charts in the country, giving the rockers another win decades after the track first rose to prominence.
“Smokin’ in the Boys Room” is a Hit Again
“Smokin’ in the Boys Room” debuts on a pair of U.K. rankings this week. On the Official Physical Singles chart, the track starts off at No. 45, just below the top 40 threshold that often defines a hit. It performs far worse on the broader Official Singles Sales list, which includes all kinds of individual purchases, not just physical formats. There, “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” barely sneaks in, starting at No. 97.
Mötley Crüe Released the Song Decades Ago
“Smokin’ in the Boys Room” was originally released in 1985 as a single from the album Theatre of Pain. The full-length helped the band further establish itself as a powerful force in the rock world, and the single became one of its earliest hits. The cut reached No. 16 on the Hot 100 in America, giving Mötley Crüe its first top 40 smash on that all-important tally.
But the band didn’t actually write the track. It’s a cover of a song by Brownsville Station, which dropped its version more than a decade before Mötley Crüe’s take arrived.
Mötley Crüe Joined Record Store Day 2025
This week’s resurgence takes place thanks to a picture disc released specifically for Record Store Day 2025. The A-side features the original “Smokin’ in the Boys Room,” while the B-side includes a remix of “Home Sweet Home.” The vinyl single sold well enough for the title to become a bestseller for the first time in the U.K. on rankings that didn’t exist when the cover was new.
A Milestone for Mötley Crüe
With “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” now on the Official Physical Singles chart, Mötley Crüe reaches a special milestone. The track marks the group’s tenth placement on that particular ranking. It also stands as one of only a handful of appearances the band has earned on the Official Singles Sales roster, which is typically harder to crack, as it’s more competitive. So far, the group has landed six hits on that latter list.
Mötley Crüe’s “Dogs of War” Returns
This week also brings another one of Mötley Crüe’s tunes to the charts in the U.K. “Dogs of War,” one of the band’s latest releases, reenters the Official Physical Singles roster at No. 60. The cut has now spent 11 weeks on the tally and previously peaked at No. 7, marking it as one of the group’s more successful efforts on this list.
