Miley Cyrus launches her Something Beautiful era with “End of the World,” which quickly hits No. 3 … More
Miley Cyrus has never struggled to capture the public’s attention, that’s for sure. Whether it’s via her genre-blending music, sometimes-controversial image, or her work in TV and film, she knows how to keep her name in headlines. Now, the pop-rock star is entering a new musical era, and her legion of followers is apparently thrilled that another chapter is finally beginning.
Cyrus has officially kicked off the promotional campaign around her upcoming album Something Beautiful, and the lead single from the project is already a smash, at least in its early hours.
“End of the World” Starts Strong on iTunes
“End of the World” serves as the first proper single from Something Beautiful. The track was released on Friday (April 4), and immediately shot up the iTunes chart in the United States. As of the time of this article being published, it’s already up to No. 3 on the iTunes Top Songs tally, making it one of the bestselling tracks in the country.
That kind of debut might not always guarantee long-term success, but an impressive start on iTunes can often be a sign of the public’s general interest. Many cuts that perform well on the download platform go on to start high on Billboard charts, like the Hot 100 or Digital Song Sales ranking, in the following days.
Miley Cyrus Faces Tough Competition
While “End of the World” is one of the most highly-anticipated new releases of the week, it isn’t the top seller on iTunes. That honor currently belongs to Sleep Token, as the band’s new single “Caramel” currently appears at No. 1. That could change as the day progresses, as it’s still early.
Just behind Cyrus is another rock act with an incredibly bold title. Volbeat enters the top five with “In the Barn of the Goat Giving Birth to Satan’s Spawn in a Dying World of Doom.” The cut currently sits at No. 4 on iTunes. Meanwhile, Drake’s “Nokia” is up to the runner-up spot.
Earlier Tunes From Something Beautiful Climb
“End of the World” might be the first proper single from Something Beautiful, but it’s not the only track from the album fans can listen to. Just days ago, Cyrus released a pair of promotional songs to start teasing what’s to come.
The title cut, Something Beautiful, improves to No. 23 on iTunes, while “Prelude,” a largely spoken-word introduction to the project, rockets back into the top 40. That track currently appears at No. 36.
Miley Cyrus’s Something Beautiful Era Has Begun
Something Beautiful is set to drop on May 30, and Cyrus is clearly just getting started. The album will be her ninth full-length, and is her first since winning the Grammy for Record of the Year for “Flowers,” her career-defining smash from her past project Endless Summer Vacation.
A visual component connected to Something Beautiful is also on the way, as a companion film is headed to theaters. That move could generate even more interest and help push the project to new commercial heights, and perhaps even earn Cyrus some major awards.
