Mikael cruises into ITF Jr tennis quarterfinals

ISLAMABAD: All seeded players of the boys’ singles category won their respective matches on Tuesday to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ITF Pakistan International J-30 Junior Tennis Championship here at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex.

Top seed Mikaeel Ali Baig of Pakistan cruised into the quarter-final with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over South Korea’s Jun Woo Ye.

Meanwhile, second seed Timur Gordeev of Russia faced a tough challenge from Pakistan’s Nabeel Qayyum before the former came from behind superbly to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to secure his spot in the last eight.

In a close match, Pakistan’s wild card Abdul Basit edged out compatriot Zohaib Afzal Malik 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(5).
