Gaga’s Mayhem easily lands at No. 1, outselling the next 10 albums combined and racking up 219,000 … More
Lady Gaga’s latest album Mayhem is proving to be an even bigger success than many might have anticipated. The pop icon’s newest album debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart – among many lists – launching with one of the largest opening sales figures of 2024. In a market where streaming often dominates, Gaga manages to post a pure sales total that few artists can match. This week, no other title comes close to rivaling Mayhem’s performance.
Mayhem Sells 136,000 Pure Copies
Mayhem opens atop the Top Album Sales chart with a staggering 136,000 copies sold. In an era where physical and digital purchases have largely been overshadowed by streaming, that number stands out as one of the biggest first-week sales sums of the year. That number proved to easily be enough to send the dance-pop powerhouse back to the penthouse on this list.
Mayhem Outsells the Competition by a Wide Margin
Gaga’s latest full-length isn’t just the bestselling title in America this week — it completely dominates the competition. Mayhem outsells the next 10 bestselling albums combined. That roundup includes major new releases from acts like Blackpink’s Jennie, Jason Isbell, Spiritbox, and TobyMac, among others.
Jennie’s Ruby Comes in a Distant Second
The closest competitor for Mayhem this week is Ruby, the first solo project from Jennie of Blackpink. The South Korean superstar’s debut effort launches at No. 2 on the Top Album Sales chart with 26,500 copies sold.
While that’s an impressive showing, Jennie’s total is just a fraction of what Gaga managed. In fact, Mayhem outsold Ruby more than five times over.
Mayhem’s Total Opening Sum Is Even Larger
The 136,000 pure copies Mayhem sold only tell part of the story of the title’s overall success. When factoring in streaming and track-equivalent album units, the album’s total first-week performance reaches an even more impressive 219,000 equivalent units. That number places the set among the biggest overall debuts of 2024.
Lady Gaga Collects Another No. 1 Album
With Mayhem’s arrival, Gaga secures her seventh No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. The superstar has now sent a dozen different projects into the top 10 on the ranking, and she has placed 17 albums on the tally, spanning soundtracks, collaborative efforts, and solo releases.
