Mayhem launches atop multiple Billboard charts, giving Lady Gaga her first No. 1 on the Top … [+]
Lady Gaga rules the Billboard charts again this week, thanks to her latest album Mayhem. The electronic dance set conquers the Billboard 200 as it arrives, while also opening at No. 1 on several other rankings published by the chart company.
In its first frame of availability, Mayhem shifted 219,000 equivalent album units. That sum is made up of both pure purchases as well as streaming equivalents, and the title performed well across both metrics.
Lady Gaga’s Largest Opening Frame
219,000 copies is easily enough to send Gaga to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, but it does not mark her largest opening frame. Born This Way debuted with more than one million units more than a decade ago, and it has held as her grandest start since. While Mayhem may not score Gaga her greatest debut on the Billboard 200, it does help her establish new best showings on several rankings thanks both to a huge streaming figure and an impressive number of vinyl copies purchased.
Mayhem is a Streaming Smash
Billboard reports that in its first seven days of availability, Mayhem collected 108 million plays on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Using the chart company’s methodology, which turns listens on those platforms into streaming equivalent albums, the streams on those sites added up to a total of 80,500 streaming equivalent albums. That marks Gaga’s largest streaming week ever.
Lady Gaga’s First No. 1 Album
That figure proved to be enough to send Mayhem straight to No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart. The newly-released effort marks the superstar’s first champion on Billboard’s ranking of the most-streamed full-lengths in the nation, which was only introduced a relatively short time ago.
Lady Gaga’s New Vinyl Record
Gaga also succeeds when it comes to wax records. Mayhem sold 74,000 copies on vinyl in just the first week it was made available to purchase. That is also a new best showing on the format for the singer.
