Lady Gaga’s Mayhem debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking her seventh chart-topping album and … More
Lady Gaga is back at No. 1, a position she’s found herself in many times before. The pop icon’s latest album Mayhem debuts atop the Billboard 200 this week, giving her yet another leader on the all-genre tally of the most-consumed albums in the U.S.
As she returns to the summit, she reaches an impressive career milestone — one that places her in the company of some of the most successful female artists of all time.
Mayhem Opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200
With Mayhem, Gaga scores her seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. That sum ties her with Janet Jackson for the fifth-most chart-topping albums in the history of the ranking among women. The two now share the spot on the all-time list, sitting behind only four other female superstars.
Taylor Swift leads all women with 14 No. 1s, a record she has continued to extend at a rapid pace. Barbra Streisand follows with 11, while Madonna and Beyoncé round out the top tier with nine and eight winners, respectively.
Mayhem’s First-Week Sales & Streaming Numbers
Gaga’s latest effort opens with 219,000 equivalent album units. That sum is largely driven by pure sales, as she remains one of the strongest sellers in the industry. Out of that total, 136,000 are attributed to traditional album purchases, while 80,500 come from streaming equivalent album units.
Lady Gaga’s History of No. 1 Albums
Gaga’s list of No. 1s includes Born This Way, Artpop, Cheek to Cheek with Tony Bennett, Joanne, A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper, Chromatica, and, now, Mayhem.
In addition to her seven No. 1s, Gaga has placed several other albums inside the top 10. Her debut, The Fame, peaked at No. 2, while The Fame Monster (often considered an extension of her first album) landed at No. 5. Her second jazz collaboration with Tony Bennett, Love for Sale, also stopped at No. 8.
Mayhem Tops Multiple Billboard Charts
Beyond the Billboard 200, Mayhem also debuts at No. 1 on several other Billboard rankings. The album launches in the highest spot on Top Album Sales, Top Streaming Albums — where it becomes her first leader — Vinyl Albums, and Top Dance Albums charts.
