Jin Young’s character feels sorry for his former classmate, a girl accused of being a witch.
Park Jin-young, aka Jin Young, plays Lee Dong-jin, a data analyst in the new Korean mystery drama The Witch. Based on the available data it’s Dong-jin’s job to predict which outcome is likely and what actions will deliver the best results. He’s really good at finding the logical conclusion in any random situation.
However, some phenomena can’t be easily explained. That’s when imaginations run wild, sometimes in dangerous and hurtful directions. He watched it happen when he was in high school. A fellow student Mi-jeong, played by Roh Jeong-eui, acquired the reputation of being a witch because she happened to be nearby when terrible things happened to a couple of male students. The rumors made her even less likely to communicate with her fellow classmates. Eventually she dropped out of school and disappeared.
A decade later, on the same day Dong-jin’s car is mysteriously vandalized, he sees Mi-jeong on the subway. A drunken man is confessing his feelings for her and she rushes out of the subway car to get away from him. Dong-jin impulsively follows her, only to later learn that the drunken man on the subway promptly had a fatal heart attack. The other students called her a witch in high school, but to a practical mind like Dong-jin’s, that doesn’t make any sense. The rumors simply don’t add up, so he begins to investigate all the cases surrounding Mi-jeong to find out what actually happened.
Dong-jin has not seen Mi-jeong for 10 years when he runs into her on the subway.
The determined Dong-jin might find a logical, non-supernatural explanation for Mi-jeong’s fatal effect on men, but since this drama is based on a Kang Full webcomic, Manyeo, that’s probably not likely. Full is known for his entertainingly fantastical story lines, having written the webcomics that inspired the superhero drama Moving and the ghostly drama Light Shop. His screenplay for Moving won Best Screenplay at the 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards. Whether or not Mi-jeong really is a witch, she cast a spell on Ko-gyeom. If she’s really the victim of a curse, he will find a way to break it.
Jin Young, a member of the k-pop band Got7, previously appeared in the dramas Yumi’s Cells, The Devil Judge and When My Love Blooms. Roh Jeong-eui appeared in the high school drama Hierarchy, Our Beloved Summer and 18 Again. She can also be seen this year in the dramas Pigpen and Bunny and Her Brothers. The Witch also stars Lim Jae-hyuk, Jang Hee-ryung, Jang Hye-jin and Ahn Nae-sang. The webcomic Manyeo is available on Kakao. The Witch airs on Viki.com in the U.S.
