As thousands of cyclists descend on Emporia, Kansas, for this weekend’s UNBOUND Gravel race, 44 of them will be competing with more than just the finish line in mind. They’re riding to raise funds for the Life Time Foundation, a nonprofit focused on improving children’s health and supporting a more sustainable planet.
The initiative, part of Life Time‘s efforts to link endurance events with social impact, has already generated more than $90,000 through this year’s group of Foundation Athletes. The participants are given guaranteed entry into the gravel race, along with training resources, branded gear and fundraising tools to help support their mission.
“Foundation Athletes play a key role in the Life Time Foundation’s mission, helping us further our commitment to foster a healthy planet, enhance youth nutrition and promote youth movement,” Life Time Foundation director Sarah Emola said. “We are grateful for their support and excited to be part of the action throughout the unparalleled UNBOUND Gravel weekend.”
At the All Things Gravel Expo, the Life Time Foundation will engage spectators with a sign-making station and a dunk tank competition to rally support for riders. During the race, Foundation staff and volunteers will be stationed at the Eskridge Oasis along the route, handing out cooling bandanas to help riders beat the heat.
