Functional Energy Drinks Make Their Way Into US Airports

Odyssey, a mushroom-powered functional energy drink brand, is coming to U.S. airports including JFK, LaGuardia and Chicago O’Hare

Airports in the United States are embracing the wellness drink boom.

Odyssey Functional Energy has officially arrived in more than 90 Cibo Express locations across eight major U.S. airports, marking a big moment for the mushroom-powered beverage brand. The partnership with OTG, the major airport retail operator behind Cibo Express, puts Odyssey in front of millions of travelers each year, signaling that functional energy may be more than just a trend.

The expansion builds on the momentum Odyssey has been building throughout the year. The brand raised $6 million to scale its mushroom-infused energy drinks and deepen its retail presence. The funding wave helped establish Odyssey’s position in a category increasingly defined by clean formulations and cognitive benefits.

Odyssey’s lineup is built around organic Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, L-Theanine and green tea caffeine, tapping into adaptogen and nootropic trends. The brand positions itself as a steadier, cleaner alternative to traditional energy drinks, delivering focus, mood support and sustained energy without sugar or artificial additives. Airports offer a strategic opportunity to shift how people fuel during long journeys.

With caffeine formats at both 222mg and 85mg, Odyssey is targeting a wide range of consumers.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Cibo Express to bring Odyssey to high-traffic airports nationwide,” said Scott Frohman, Odyssey’s CEO and founder. “This partnership allows us to connect with travelers where they need energy most, helping them power through busy journeys while experiencing a next-generation approach to functional beverages.”

Travelers will find three of Odyssey’s standout flavors, pineapple mango, blue raspberry and dragon fruit lemonade, across major hubs, including LaGuardia, JFK, Newark Liberty, George Bush Intercontinental, Ronald Reagan Washington National, Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Chicago O’Hare and Philadelphia International.

The deal also lands at a moment when investors are doubling down on functional beverages ranging from mood-supporting seltzers to non-alcoholic social beverages.

Lucky Energy recently had a $25 million Series B to fuel a national rollout in clean energy drinks. Trip also had a $40 million raise to scale its calming beverages, and Recess raised a $30 million round to grow its “calm energy” line and bring on an ex-Nutrabolt executive.
