Eight Sleep Raises $100M To Develop AI Sleep Agent, Pursue FDA Approval

Investors aren’t sleeping on sleep tech, backing Eight Sleep with $100 million just weeks after Somnee’s $10 million raise for its AI-powered sleep headband

Eight Sleep has raised $100 million to accelerate its push into artificial intelligence, expand into medical applications and scale globally with China as a key target.

The round drew backing from HSG, Valor Equity Partners, Founders Fund, Y Combinator, Atreides and investors Ferrari Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc and McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown, bringing the company’s total funding to more than $250 million. Although Eight Sleep didn’t disclose specifics, Athletech News has learned the company’s valuation has nearly doubled since its last round, approaching unicorn status.

It comes as health tech shifts past wearables and into the bedroom, with sleep emerging as the bedrock of the pursuit of health and wellness, and follows Somnee’s recent $10 million seed extension for its AI-powered sleep headband. The startup, co-founded by sleep scientist and Equinox partner Dr. Matt Walker and already used by the NBA, uses EEG sensors and AI to guide the brain into a natural sleep state.

Eight Sleep’s growth reflects the sleep trend, reporting more than $500 million in Pod sales, its AI-powered mattress cover that turns any bed into a personalized, health-optimizing environment, alongside a tenfold revenue increase since launch and analysis of more than 1 billion hours of sleep data across 30 countries.

The new capital will fuel the development of what Eight Sleep calls the world’s first AI-powered Sleep Agent, designed to interpret biometric data and dynamically adjust factors like temperature, elevation and bedtime routines to optimize recovery. The tool builds on the company’s existing Autopilot feature, which already makes millions of nightly adjustments based on user behavior.

“We’re creating digital twins of your sleep physiology to simulate, test and personalize your recovery before you even close your eyes,” Eight Sleep co-founder and CEO Matteo Franceschetti said. “This is the next frontier: AI that doesn’t just track you, it understands and adapts to you in real time.”

The sleep fitness company plans to seek FDA approval for certain applications and has already launched Hot Flash Mode, which uses cooling to ease menopause-related symptoms. Sleep apnea interventions are next, powered by the Pod’s contactless monitoring capabilities.

“Eight Sleep has developed a turn-key solution for sleep and health optimization: hardware, software, AI and consumer goods that dynamically adjust around each person’s needs,” Franceschetti said. “This new funding enables us to accelerate the deployment of AI for sleep optimization, expand into medical applications like menopausal sleep and sleep apnea, and bring our technology to millions of people around the world.”

Next up, Eight Sleep is also targeting further international expansion, with a planned entry into China, building on its product availability in Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia, Mexico and the UAE.

Earlier this spring, the company unveiled Pod 5, its most advanced system yet, which integrates temperature regulation, automatic elevation, ambient soundscapes and passive health monitoring in real-time. The launch marked a step toward positioning the bed not just as a place for rest but as a hub for preventive health, with features like contact-free cardiovascular monitoring and zero-gravity positioning to reduce snoring and support recovery.

Eight Sleep has deepened its ties to professional sports, enlisting more than 300 athletes as ambassadors to highlight the role of sleep in recovery and performance. Leclerc, who joined as an investor earlier this year, said the Pod’s personalized feedback helps guide his training regimen during the racing season. Other athletes aligned with the brand include Aaron Judge, Brock Purdy, Jimmy Butler and Taylor Fritz. The company is also stepping into emerging sports communities, having recently partnered with 6 Love Sports to relaunch one of the country’s leading women’s padel leagues under its name. The Eight Sleep Miami Women’s Padel League by 6 Love Sports features more than 160 players, with Pod 5 systems awarded to winning teams each season
