Dalton Smith vs. Mathieu Germain
Dalton Smith’s run of three straight knockout wins ended on Saturday in his hometown of Sheffield when he picked up a one-sided unanimous decision win over Mathieu Germain, who was on the retreat from the start of the super lightweight matchup.
Smith, the No. 1 ranked WBC super lightweight, scored three knockdowns (Rd 2, Rd. 11, Rd. 12) on his way to his 18th win in 18 fights. Meanwhile, Germain seemed focused solely on getting to the final horn without losing via knockout.
Smith wanted a knockout win but refused to overextend himself or open himself to the slightest bit of danger over the 12-round scrap. On a positive note, the fight gave the 28-year-old some important rounds as he heads toward a title fight, which could be on Smith’s schedule before the end of 2025.
Oh, and the 119 scores that two of the judges gave? The ref deducted a point from Smith late in the contest for a low blow.
Afer the win, Smith, who is the mandatory challenger for the WBC junior welterweight title that Alberto Puello won with a split decision victory over Sandor Martin in March called for that fight to take place.
Josh Warrington vs. Asad Asif Khan
Riding a three-fight losing skid and returning from a September 2021 decision loss to Anthony Cacace where it looked like he was retiring, the 34-year-old Josh Warrington returned to action on Saturday. The former IBF featherweight champ moved up to super featherweight for his matchup against the 31-year-old Asad Asif Khan, who was coming off a March decision loss to Mick Conlan.
It took Warrington a couple of rounds to get into the fight, but once he did, he showed some good pressure while mixing up his targets and techniques. Meanwhile, Khan was fighting off his back foot while struggling to find a range where he could have success.
Warrington racked up some damage in the fifth, putting Khan on shaky legs. For his part, Khan looked as if any confidence he had early in the fight had left him by the end of the fifth stanza.
Warrington looked good in this fight, but the more important thing was that his performance will give him confidence and shake off any doubts he might have had after his recent series of defeats.
Warrington was a -4500 favorite over the +1100 Khan to open the contest.
Josh Padley vs. Marko Cvetanovic
Josh Padley gained experience and profile in February when he stepped up on very short notice to battle Shakur Stevenson. While Padley lost that fight, his showing on that night in Riyadh earned him a nice paycheck and a deal with Matchroom Boxing.
On Saturday, Padley stepped into the ring for his first fight as a full-time boxer, matching up against Marko Cvetanovic.
Padley looked good in the opening round. He showed composure and focus, fighting well at distance and touching up Cvetanovic, who looked outmatched in the first three minutes of the fight. Padley was a -3000 betting favorite over the +890 Cvetanovic.
Cvetanovic had nothing for Padley outside of toughness. Padley finally broke his opponent in the fifth round, scoring two knockdowns early in the stanza before the ref waved things off.
With the win, Padley moves to 16-1 with five knockouts. He also captured the vacant WBA International lightweight championship.
Ryan Kelly vs. Caoimhin Agyarko
This was an excellent fight to open the main card. Caoimhin Agyarko, who came in on short notice, opened the super welterweight matchup with a lot of aggression. He looked to fight behind his jabs to the head and body, showing good speed and power. Meanwhile, Ryan Kelly came on in the second round and used pressure and ring control while establishing his jab and work rate.
Kelly seemed to carry things from the second round until the fight’s second half. However, Kelly appeared to slow in the seventh, which gave Agyarko the confidence to increase his output. At the same time, Agyarko stopped accepting his opponent’s forward pressure and control, got back to his combinations, and found openings to land with power.
This fight was incredibly close, but in the end, Agyarko remained undefeated, moving to 17-0 in capturing the vacant WBA super welterweight title. With the loss, Kelly falls to 19-6-1.

Smith vs. Germain Fight Card: Dalton Smith
Dalton Smith (17-0 with 13 knockouts) turned pro in 2019. During his brief career he has shown a penchant for racking up knockouts. The 28-year-old enters Saturday’s card with finishes in his past three outings. In his most recent bout, Smith stopped Walid Ouizza in the first round of their January 2025 matchup.
In three minutes, Smith showed everything that has fans and pundits excited about his rise up the ranks. Smith displayed speed, power, excellent shot selection and a gift for finishing in his brief time in the ring with the overmatched Ouizza.
With that win, Smith won the vacant European light-welterweight title and retained the WBC Silver light-welterweight title.
Smith did not need to take this fight. He is the mandatory challenger for the WBC junior welterweight title that Alberto Puello won with a split decision victory over Sandor Martin in March.
“I mean, I could have [waited], but I just wanted to stay active, I wanted to keep that momentum going,” Smith told BoxingScene. “So, we said, ‘Look, if we can get the arena’ – we couldn’t get the Sheffield arena, but got the smaller one – I want to stay active and, yeah, like I say, it’s going to put me in good stead. I want to stay active, put a good performance in and then chase that WBC title.”
Smith is ranked No. 11 by the WBO, No. 10 by the IBF, and No. 1 by the WBC in the 140-pound division.

I feel like in the next couple of years, I’m going to come into my prime. I just feel like I’m going to be able to show my level. I’m going to put on a great performance and I think it’s going to be a stamp to say, ‘Look, this is why I’m number one mandatory for the WBC.’”
