As demand for creatine surges and concerns get raised over the quality of gummy-based forms of ingestion, some brands are innovating with new formats like chews and tablets
Creatine’s edible era has arrived, with gummies turning a muscle-supporting performance supplement into something that feels friendly and convenient for a much wider audience.
But now, with gummies under heavier scrutiny after a bombshell SuppCo report found that several top-selling creatine gummies contained little to no creatine, wellness brands are exploring formats that don’t carry the same baggage gummies now do.
The shift is happening at a moment when the creatine category is exploding. The global creatine supplements market was valued at $1.11 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $4.21 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 25.2%, according to Grand View Research. North America holds the largest share at 39.4%, with the U.S. market alone expected to grow nearly 29% annually.
Enter creatine chews and tablets, a fast-growing category in which several brands are playing.
Momentous has launched Creatine Chews, while Mutant, a bodybuilding brand under Fit Foods Ltd., has just introduced Creatine Bytz, a sugar-free chewable creatine tablet. They join Revolution Nutrition’s Creatine Candies, another sugar-free chewable creatine brand.
“As the market began moving beyond traditional powders, we saw a rush to create convenient formats, often at the expense of efficacy. We refused to compromise,” Momentous co-founder and CEO Jeff Byers said. “Instead, our team spent years testing, refining and reformulating — conducting dozens of trials to ensure we could deliver a chewable product that lived up to The Momentous Standard.”
According to Momentous, its new Creatine Chews went through NSF Certified for Sport third-party testing, a step the company says guarantees safety, quality and label accuracy.
Creatine innovation isn’t limited to chewable tablets. Earlier this year, The Vitamin Shoppe launched BodyTech Elite Creatine Beadlets, which feature four layers of encapsulated creatine in a time-release design.
The Creatine Boom Is Real
And even with questions around quality in the gummy category, demand for creatine hasn’t slowed.
Bloom’s new Creatine Gummies are one example of how strong the appeal remains, especially among younger women who are increasingly strength training. Create Wellness has also carved out a major foothold in the gummy craze with its third-party tested and NSF-Certified for Sport products. The brand, founded by husband-and-wife team Dan and Sienna McCormick, has sold more than 100 million gummies since its 2022 launch and continues to expand flavors, most recently adding Sour Cherry and Sour Peach.
Although creatine has long been associated with gym regulars for its muscle-building benefits, its user base is shifting. Vitamin retailer GNC reported that creatine sales have surged by 75% since 2020, driven largely by women and older adults.
Creatine’s benefits also appear to extend beyond the gym. One study found that creatine may help ease depression when used alongside standard treatments, while a pilot study from the University of Kansas Medical Center found that creatine supplementation appeared to produce moderate improvements in working memory and executive function in people with Alzheimer’s.
