Nicholas Hoult Says It Was ‘Amazing’ To Meet His Hero Clint Eastwood
While it hasn’t officially been announced, Juror #2 may be the last film in iconic filmmaker and actor Clint Eastwood’s illustrious career since he turned 94 in May.
Juror #2 marks Eastwood’s 40th film as a director. As a filmmaker, Eastwood has won two Best Director Oscars, for Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby. The films also earned Eastwood Best Picture Oscars as a producer.
Nicholas Hoult, who grew up a fan of Eastwood’s work as a director and an actor, discussed the thrill of working with the film icon in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter prior to the film’s release in theaters.
“They always say don’t meet your heroes, but this is a case where it’s amazing to meet your heroes because he’s cool and calm and collected, he has an ease about life and with people and a charm and a glint in his eye and always a cracking sense of humor,” Hoult told THR. “He cares about what he’s creating, he trusts the people around him and he trusts the audience too.”
Juror #2 was widely embraced by Rotten Tomatoes critics, who collectively gave the film a 94% “fresh” rating based on 142 reviews.
The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “A legal thriller with a heavy conscience, Juror #2 is less a summation of Clint Eastwood’s storied directorial career than another terrific reminder of his knack for plain-spoken drama.”
Equally thrilled to be in the presence of Eastwood was Toni Collette, who told THR, “I just can’t believe I got to work with him. He’s a dream director. It’s an incredible atmosphere to work within, and there’s a lot of freedom and connectedness and a sense of community on set.”
In addition, Juror #2 earned a 90% “fresh” rating on the RT Popcornmeter, based on 250-plus verified user ratings.
