Aviron Looks To Gamify Ab Workouts

The Toronto-based fitness tech brand has launched its latest gamified workout product, the Abs Hero, an effort to continue its mission of making workouts less boring

Planks are about to get a lot more entertaining than just staring at the floor or wall.

Fitness tech brand Aviron, known for its gamified workouts, has unveiled the Abs Hero Core Trainer (Abs Hero), which brings game-driven fitness tech to home workouts in plank-focused sessions.

The short workouts are ideal for building strength, improving balance, reducing back pain and strengthening the core. Users are meant to move dynamically on the device to work not just the core, but the upper body, engaging over 20 muscles — including abs, obliques and deep stabilizers — in each session.

“Core strength is the foundation of every movement you make,” said Aviron founder and CEO Andy Hoang. “With the Abs Hero, we’re turning one of the most dreaded yet essential exercises into something people actually look forward to, you’re having fun in the moment, and only realize how hard you worked once the burn kicks in.”

The Abs Hero features a built-in device holder and connects directly to the Aviron iOS app, where users can access a growing library of game-based core workouts with real-time feedback, progress tracking and live leaderboards.

The new innovation is another vessel for Aviron’s mission to “end boring workouts,” with a concept that aims to turn static planks into an interactive, dynamic and immersive gamified experience.

It adds to the brand’s existing product lineup which includes rowers, treadmills and stationary bikes.
Aviron has been looking to expand its philosophy beyond its products, though.

This summer, the brand collaborated with virtual group fitness provider Les Mills as a way to keep people engaged in workouts, even at home. The partnership brought more than 300 of Les Mills’ science-backed studio classes to Aviron’s gamified fitness platform.
