LA Fitness Parent Has Big Expansion Plans for Club Studio Brand

Unveiled by Fitness International in 2023, Club Studio houses multiple boutique fitness modalities under one roof, joining a growing industry trend. The brand is looking to reach 50 locations in the next 12 months

As Club Studio opens its 15th location, its executives are already thinking about the next 35.

Parent company Fitness International LLC (owners of LA Fitness) is bringing the club of boutique studios concept to downtown Miami as it kicks off an ambitious expansion plan over the next year.

“From 15 locations today, we’ll have 50 open nationwide within the next 12 months,” said Fitness International chief real estate officer Nick Roberts.

To support its ambitious expansion goal, Club Studio has plans to add locations in major cities including New York City, Los Angeles and Houston, as well as states like Maryland, Illinois and Pennsylvania.

Fitness International is investing in Club Studio’s unique concept of five boutique studio rooms under one roof, with six different class offerings:

CS4: A HIIT-style training that combines cardio and strength training with rowing machines, treadmills, ski-ergs and functional strength training equipment.

Ride: Full-body, 45-minute cycling incorporating a weight sequence under dim lighting.

Box: A full-body class blending nine rounds of boxing combinations and functional movements.

Reform: A 45-minute Pilates reformer class.

Yoga: Traditional yoga asanas, yin poses and burpees in a heated studio.

Rebound: A 45-minute low-impact cardio workout on trampolines while lifting and toning.

In addition to the six modalities, Club Studio is also home to a dedicated recovery area, with localized cryotherapy, access to massage beds, massage rollers, compression and percussion therapy featuring Hyperice tools and Normatec boots.

The new, 38,000 square-foot flagship facility will open at the Miami Worldcenter, a $6 billion mixed-purpose development home to residential, retail, hospitality, entertainment and public spaces spanning 27 acres across 10 city blocks.

“Club Studio brings an entirely new level of health and wellness offerings to the urban core — a one-of-a-kind destination that blends boutique fitness, recovery, and lifestyle amenities under one roof,” said Nitin Motwani, the managing partner of Miami Worldcenter Associates.

‘Club of Studios’ Concepts Gain Ground

Club Studio joins a trend of expansion among several other brands adopting multiple boutique studios within one club or gym.

Style Studios, which offers four boutique-style group fitness classes under one roof — strength and conditioning, yoga, Pilates and cycling — recently launched a national franchising arm, signaling its plans for U.S. expansion. The brand calls its concept a “club of studios.”

Earlier this year, Action Black, which features multiple modalities under one roof in a nightclub-inspired atmosphere, revealed its plans for major U.S. growth as well. And Canada-based Altea has taken the concept to a new level, offering nine different boutique studios in one luxury gym, with the goal of dominating Canada’s fitness market.
