The sleep tech company is targeting nighttime hot flashes with a new on-demand cooling feature and launching a multi-year initiative to advance women’s sleep research

Menopausal sleep struggles just got a tech upgrade.

Sleep tech company Eight Sleep has launched a multi-year Women’s Sleep Initiative and introduced a new feature designed to alleviate one of menopause’s most disruptive symptoms: nighttime hot flashes.

The feature, called Hot Flash Mode and available now, delivers on-demand cooling to help reduce hot flashes and night sweats. Nearly 80% of women experience these symptoms during menopause, and according to the company, it was one of the most requested features from users.

“Women’s bodies change dramatically over time, and as wearables become more popular, it’s important to recognize that data is not enough when looking to solve the challenges that we encounter during sleep,”
Eight Sleep co-founder Alexandra Zatarain said. “We recognize that it’s time to use technology to solve women’s sleep challenges, and we are starting with hot flashes, one of the most common and disruptive symptoms of menopause.”

Activated with a single tap on the Pod’s embedded button, the new feature quickly lowers the bed’s temperature to help restore thermal comfort and minimize sleep interruptions.

Before its rollout, Hot Flash Mode underwent pre-launch trials with women experiencing hot flashes. According to the sleep fitness company, eight out of ten participants reported relief within 10 minutes, while 78% said it outperformed other solutions they had tried. All participants said they would be disappointed to lose access to the feature.

In addition to real-time relief, the Eight Sleep app now includes Hot Flash Reports, a new tool that tracks frequency, timing and patterns of hot flashes throughout the night. The goal, the company says, is to equip users with data that can drive more informed conversations with healthcare providers.

The Women’s Sleep Initiative marks Eight Sleep’s latest push to harness technology in line with the biological realities of women’s sleep, recovery and performance. In its first phase, the company will invest in large-scale research focused on women’s sleep, collecting data from tens of thousands of participants. It also plans to develop adaptive Pod features that address key life stages, from menstruation to menopause, and collaborate with leading experts in reproductive health and sleep science.

“Science has long overlooked the complexity of women’s sleep,” Eight Sleep’s senior director of science and clinical research, Nicole Moyen, Ph.D., said. “We now have the data to start building solutions that reflect how women’s temperature needs shift through life, and we’re continuing to collect more, driven by our commitment to women’s research. This is just the beginning.”

The launch follows other recent moves by Eight Sleep to deepen its commitment to women’s health and performance. The company recently partnered with 6 Love Sports to relaunch one of the country’s leading women’s padel leagues under the new name Eight Sleep Miami Women’s Padel League by 6 Love Sports. As part of the collaboration, Eight Sleep will award its Pod 5 system to winning teams each season, reinforcing recovery as a core pillar of athletic performance.
