What are two of the fastest-growing fitness hashtags on TikTok? Hint: They’re where social meets sweat, and nature becomes the studio
For Gen Z, TikTok is the go-to for fitness inspo and impulse buys. From marathon training tips, morning hot yoga routines and viral fitness trends like the 4-2-1 workout method, fitness and wellness content is booming on the platform, and it’s translating into real-world gains and purchases.
Now, according to TikTok, two trends in particular are leading the charge: #RunTok and #OutdoorYoga.
Posts under #RunTok have skyrocketed more than 150% between the first half of 2024 and the first half of 2025, totaling over 1.2 million globally, according to the platform. The trend, which is part training log, part community support system, has turned solo running into a shared experience, with creators offering tips for those training for marathons, gear recs and post-run recovery breakdowns.

Notably, connected fitness giant Peloton has jumped on the running trend with the launch of its first-ever NYC-based run club, while Runningman is set to host its upcoming three-day wellness and running event this September.
Meanwhile, #OutdoorYoga is gaining ground with an almost 65% jump in posts between the first half of 2025 and the first half of 2024. As warmer weather rolled in, yogis began documenting their backyard and nature-soaked hot yoga sessions, turning the outdoors into a new kind of hot yoga studio.
Thanks to TikTok’s influence, trends don’t just live on the screen, they drive product discovery and purchase decisions. According to a 2023 TikTok Marketing Science survey, two of the top wellness purchases include supplements and over-the-counter pain relief – staples in the platform’s fitness recovery kits, morning routines and “what’s in my gym bag” videos.

Zooming out, TikTok’s dominance among younger Americans helps explain its impact.
According to Pew Research Center, one-third of U.S. adults now use the app, but its reach is far deeper among younger generations. Fifty-nine percent of adults under 30 use TikTok, compared with just 10% of those 65 and older. Usage has climbed steadily, rising from 21% in 2021 to 33% in 2023, with 95% of adult users citing entertainment as the main draw. Among teens, the numbers are even more striking: 63% of 13- to 17-year-olds use TikTok, with 57% using it daily and 16% saying they’re on it “almost constantly.”
Beyond surfacing wellness and fitness content, TikTok appears to be building its own wellness infrastructure, having rolled out in-app guided meditation prompts and expanded its Mental Health Education Fund. The “Meditation in Sleep Hours” feature, tested earlier this year, was left on by 98% of teen users, prompting TikTok to make it a default for users under 18. Now, if a teen opens the app after 10 p.m., their “For You” feed is interrupted with calming meditation exercises designed to help them wind down. A second, full-screen prompt appears if they continue using the app. Adults can also opt in through their Screen Time settings.
