Matheus Cunha deserves to be plying his trade higher in the Premier League table. The Brazilian has registered 10 goals and four assists in 18 league appearances this season for a Wolves team fighting against relegation when he has the talent to play for a side with loftier ambitions than just survival.

It’s therefore unsurprising that teams higher up the table have been linked with Cunha. Indeed, Arsenal is believed to be interested in the 25-year-old and there’s good reason to believe Cunha would be a good fit for Mikel Arteta’s side. He could be the final piece of the puzzle for the title-chasing Gunners in January.

Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town on Friday reduced the gap at the top of the Premier League table to six points. Liverpool still hold a game in-hand, but the Gunners still believe they can win the title for the first time since the Arsene Wenger days this season. To do that, though, Arteta will likely need another attacking option.

Bukayo Saka is expected to miss the next two months of action with a hamstring injury. This has opened up a place in the Arsenal forward line and Cunha would be the perfect figure to fill it. While the Brazilian is more of a centre forward than a winger, he has the versatility to play in a number of different positions.

Cunha is an attacking all-rounder. He can dribble. He can shoot from distance. He can finish from close range. For Wolves, Cunha is a one-man attacking hub and he could be a similar sort of player for Arsenal such is Arteta’s determination to have a free-flowing, interchangeable frontline with the likes of Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard.

Of course, Wolves won’t want to part with its best player in the midst of a relegation fight. Cunha is the main reason the Molineux outfit is currently above the bottom three in the Premier League table. Without him, there’s every chance Wolves will find itself in the Championship for the start of next season. The risk of relegation is real.

However, every players has his price and Arsenal is surely tempted to make a move for Cunha in the January transfer window knowing that the 25-year-old could help narrow the gap to Liverpool at the top of the table. Cunha might not win the Gunners a Premier League title, but his signing wouldn’t hurt.
