“Drop” — a critically acclaimed mystery suspense thriller starring Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar — is new on digital streaming this week.
Drop debuted in theaters on April 11. The summary for the movie reads, “Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, The Perfect Couple) plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (1923 and It Ends with Us’ Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
“She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry.”
Universal Pictures announced Monday that Drop will be available on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, April 29.
Drop will be available on several digital platforms including Prime Video, AppleTV and Fandango at Home. Prime Video currently has the film up for pre-order for $24.99, which will also be the purchase price.
Since digital rentals are generally $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent Drop for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.
How Was ‘Drop’ Received By Audiences And Critics?
Drop has earned $15.8 million domestically and $10.2 internationally for a worldwide box office for a worldwide box office tally of $26 million to date against an $11 million production budget before prints and advertising costs, according to The Numbers.
Drop received an 84% “fresh” score from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 203 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “A Hitchcockian thriller that cleverly utilizes modern technology for its twists and turns, Drop delivers on its pulpy premise while providing a welcome showcase for leading lady Meghann Fahy.”
In addition, audiences gave the film an 80% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 1,000-plus verified user ratings. The audience summary on RT reads, “A rewarding watch, this cheesy popcorn thriller entertains down to its last Drop.”
Directed by Christopher Landon, Drop, which is rated PG-13, arrives on PVOD on Tuesday. In additon to the digital release, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced that Drop will also arrive on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on June 10.
