ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1408 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, April 27thBy Erik Kain

It’s the last Monday of April already. I think time goes by faster when you keep track of your daily Wordle. Something about noting each day, marking it, tracking it, does something with your sense of time. Oh well, time marches on and there’s nothing we can do about it, so we might as well have fun in the process. Let’s solve today’s Wordle, shall we?

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Used when crash-testing cars.

The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

Okay, spoilers below!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

It’s always kind of unsettling when your first two words have entirely gray boxes. So it was today with SPORE and CHAIN, which eliminated almost all my vowels and many other common letters in the process. I had 28 remaining possible solutions when I guessed BULKY, and that only cut it down to 12. But many of these I recognized as previous Wordles, like MUMMY and GUMMY, so I went with DUMMY (though I very nearly picked FUZZY) and lucked out. That was the Wordle! Huzzah for me!

Competitive Wordle Score

Just like yesterday, the Bot and I tied with four, giving us each 0 points. Our April totals are stagnant at:

Erik: 12 points

Wordle Bot: 16 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “dummy” comes from the noun “dumb” (meaning “mute, unable to speak”) + the suffix “-y” (forming nouns). It first appeared in English around the late 16th to early 17th century, originally meaning “a mute person.” By the 18th century, it also came to mean “an imitation” (like a model or replica), and later “a foolish person.”
