EGYM Adds Next Layer of Personalization and Connectivity with Squat Flexibility Test

EGYM’s latest innovation expands its connected system of offerings while filling one of the industry’s more persistent gaps

Known for weaving smart, automated strength training equipment that caters to fitness consumers of all levels throughout entire gym floors, EGYM has flexibility in its DNA. Now, the renowned fit tech brand is helping individuals increase theirs while furthering their insight-driven and connected fitness experiences.

This year at HFA, EGYM unveiled its Squat Flexibility Test, which measures a user’s flexibility levels through 3D analysis technology and relays that information back to them in an easy-to-digest manner. The innovation, within EGYM’s Fitness Hub, allows users to evaluate themselves on a more detailed level than ever before, putting them on a straightforward path to progress.

By extension, it’s also helping gyms stand out in an increasingly saturated market with concrete, high-end offerings.

“For gyms, this is about differentiation,” said John Ford, Chief Product Officer at EGYM. “In today’s competitive market, measurable results matter. Our test gives operators a tangible way to show value, not just promise it.”

It Starts with a Squat

While looking for new areas to expand its smart fitness network, it didn’t take long for EGYM to zero in on squatting, identifying it as a platform for member onboarding into the EGYM environment.

“Squats are one of the most popular movements in any gym – but they’re also one of the most commonly performed with poor form,” said Ford. “Often, this isn’t just a matter of technique but of underlying mobility limitations.”

Being a measuring stick and a guide in one, the Squat Flexibility Test helps course correct these continued misfires in the gym. The product views and zeroes in on multiple joints during a user’s singular, squat movement before assessing their mobility and correlating it with their biological age. Seconds later, their results are displayed on a screen in the form of a BioAge Flexibility Score, laying the groundwork for additional improvement and safety.

The test is changing things for the better with its general concentration on flexibility. For the same reasons wellness and longevity are currently picking up steam, flexibility-focused exercise is also moving forward with pace and pep after years at the back of the track.

“Flexibility has long taken a back seat to strength or aesthetics – but that’s changing,” said Ford. “We’re seeing a shift toward more health-conscious training, where injury prevention and movement quality matter. Our goal is to make flexibility measurable, visible and relevant. The test helps users connect mobility with performance, pain prevention and everyday function.”

Helping Trainers & End Users

But as the Squat Flexibility Test promotes flexibility and analyzes user movement, it also simultaneously extends two helping hands — one to the user and another to any trainers or coaches involved. The test sets the framework for personalization that allows trainers to better understand their clients. Their clients, then being trained to a tee, benefit as expected.

“The Squat Test breaks down a complex movement into actionable data – highlighting mobility or form limitations in seconds,” said Ford. “That’s incredibly helpful for professionals: it creates awareness, improves member buy-in and drives compliance with recommendations. It also enables instant personalization while leaving room for trainers to go deeper. The result: smarter coaching, better communication and higher impact.”

As users continue to use the test, personalization benefits multiply while engagement and retention follow.

“Reassessment brings two key benefits: motivation for the member and ongoing personalization of the workout plan,” said Ford. “If a member couldn’t squat at first but improves over time, the system adapts – and the results speak for themselves.”

Growing the EGYM Ecosystem

Like all EGYM products, the Squat Flexibility Test integrates easily into any gym’s web of equipment. The test’s insights help fuel EGYM Genius, the brand’s AI-based workout plan formulator, to establish a connected gym environment while doubling down on personalization.

“The squat test generates actionable insights during onboarding,” Ford explained. “These feed into EGYM Genius for personalized training recommendations, help optimize machine settings and allow members to track progress over time. This end-to-end integration saves operators time and enhances their competitive edge.”

Squatting being a rather rudimentary workout makes the test an easy addition to any gym as well, captivating users with its cutting-edge features while welcoming them to it with open arms via its simple-to-use nature.

“The squat is a natural movement that members of all ages understand – whether it’s for strength goals or simply getting up from a chair,” said Ford. “That makes the test intuitive and easy to implement without lengthy explanations.

“At EGYM, we design features to strengthen the entire ecosystem, not stand alone,” he added.
