Michael Buble’ and Carly Pearce
He’s five-time GRAMMY-winner who has dedicated his career to keeping timeless songs from the Great American Songbook alive and well, while also proving his incredible versatility whether he’s singing pop, jazz, or R&B.
Michael Buble’ has also become a familiar face and voice around the holidays, thanks to his best-selling 2011 album Christmas. The album is so beloved, it organically makes its way back up the charts every year as December rolls around.
Now, Buble’ has a new song to add to the list.
“Maybe This Christmas” will likely resonate with anyone who might face the challenge of going through another holiday alone or has been through that experience in the past. Buble,’ who wrote it, says it’s a song about two people reaching out to each other with one saying, “I’m hurting,” and the other saying, “I hear you and I love you and I’m thinking about you.”
He recorded it with with country artist Carly Pearce. The two sat down together in Nashville to talk about why both feel this song is so special.
“Honestly because it comes from so deep within me,” Buble’ explained. “It’s something that happened to me, something I went through, and sometimes God just gives you the words. Sometimes you’re just a conduit.”
“This song has such a heart to it,” Pearce said. “It speaks to people who feel alone at Christmas and don’t have a song that speaks to that sadness and empty feeling so many walk around and feel. I love moments where you can make people feel seen and I think we do that. And again, I’m honored Michael asked me to be a part of it.”
Buble’ is a country music fan who was familiar with Pearce. He invited her to serve as a playoff advisor to his team on The Voice.
He’s a member of the coaching panel this year alongside Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Gwen Stefani.

“I love Snoop, I love Reba, and I love Gwen,” Buble explained. “And the thing I love most about them is it isn’t a game; it isn’t a TV show where the cameras come on and they turn into these fake people. They were there for those kids and they’re still there for those kids, even the ones that didn’t win. And when I reached out to Carly, I wanted someone who could help me advocate for those young artists.”
After meeting Pearce, he asked her to join him as a duet partner for this song.
(Instead of going into a studio, the two recorded their vocals for the song on an iPhone 16 Pro using the Voice Memo app. The app creates two individual tracks so users can apply additional mixing and production in professional apps like Logic Pro. Producer Greg wells helped bring it all together.)
Buble’ and Pearce performed “Maybe This Christmas” on Part 1 of The Voice finale Monday, December 9th, the night before Buble and his artist, Sofronio, were crowned the season’s winner.
Less than a week later, Pearce, who is a member of the Grand Ole Opry, returned the favor. She welcomed Buble’ to Nashville for his first ever appearance on the home stage of country music.
“It was overwhelmingly amazing,” Buble’ said. “Being at this historic, incredible place with all of these iconic people. Stepping into that famous circle for my first time ever as the Opry gets ready to celebrate its 100th anniversary. I kept thinking – this can’t be real.”

As Buble’ celebrates his latest Christmas song, he admits there was a time when he took a lot of ribbing for his close connection with Christmas. There were jokes and endless internet memes, and it used to bother him, until he got a wake-up call that put his entire life, and the things that matter most, into perspective.
“I remember when my son was ill, and it all became clear to me,” Buble recalled. (His son, who is now in remission, was diagnosed with liver cancer at the age of three.) “He was diagnosed on Halloween Day, and in December we were sitting in the hospital. I was thinking about having been worried about how people saw me and how they’d make those jokes, and I had this moment of clarity. I thought, ‘My God man, these beautiful souls all over the planet have invited you into their homes to celebrate something that is so beautiful, rich, and personal, and you’re allowing your ego or insecurity to see it in a light that isn’t positive. I realized there was no greater compliment.”
Today he remains “blown away” by the support he receives from fans all over the world. And ever grateful.
“I love Christmas, I love my faith, and I love these songs.”
And he thinks this new one has all the hallmarks of a Christmas classic, one people will listen to for years to come.
“You asked me why this one is special. It couldn’t come from a more real place,” Buble said. “Sometimes when you tell the truth there’s an authenticity to the emotion. It’s something other people might feel but aren’t able to articulate. Those are the songs that move people.”
