Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s I Said I Love You First hits No. 1 on two Billboard sales charts and … More
Selena Gomez is back with new music, and this time, she’s brought a partner along for the ride. The pop star’s new full-length I Said I Love You First marks a major new chapter in her career — not just musically, but personally as well. The album was created with her fiancé, producer and songwriter Benny Blanco, and while it may not have completely dominated every chart it’s debuts on this frame, it’s still a very special win for both acts, and for a number of reasons.
I Said I Love You First finds its way onto four of Billboard’s albums charts this week. It may not debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — something Gomez clearly hoped for — but the project still enjoys a healthy start strong, and it earns the couple an important placement on a tally launched not long ago.
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco Debut on One Chart
The lowest debut for I Said I Love You First comes on the Top Streaming Albums chart, where it starts off at No. 6. That might not sound like a major win compared to the other opening positions the full-length scores this week, but it’s noteworthy for both artists.
This week marks the first time that either Gomez or Blanco have appeared on this specific roster. Neither musician had dropped a new full-length since Billboard introduced this list more than a year ago, so it’s not shocking that it took until now for the musicians to arrive.
Selena Gomez Just Misses No. 1 on the Billboard 200
On the Billboard 200, I Said I Love You First performs much better. The album opens at No. 2, narrowly missing out on the top spot. That’s likely a tough pill to swallow for Gomez, who typically launches her albums at No. 1. This time, she was blocked by Playboi Carti, whose latest release stays in first place for a second consecutive frame.
According to Luminate, I Said I Love You First shifted 120,000 equivalent album units in its first tracking frame. That’s a very solid total, especially for Blanco, who has never been a lead artist on such a major project before.
Selena Gomez Tops Two Sales Charts
While I Said I Love You First couldn’t take over the Billboard 200, it did manage to conquer two other tallies. The new full-length opens at No. 1 on both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts. Those rankings focus exclusively on purchases, and don’t include streams.
The project becomes Gomez’s fourth No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. It marks her first leader on the Vinyl Albums tally. In its first week, the release sold 71,000 copies across all formats, proving that her fans still show up in a big way – and open their wallets – whenever she puts something new out into the world.
