House of David
House of David has just aired its season 1 finale on Amazon Prime Video, proving to be a hugely popular show that almost no one is talking about in traditional media circles. But it’s #2 on Amazon’s top 10 shows list, behind only Reacher season 3 which also just aired its finale. House of David is putting up numbers ahead of the new season of The Wheel of Time and the most recent season of Invincible, and for a fraction of the cost.
So, you want to know about season 2? David’s adventures after his big Goliath fight? We have some updates here.
Yes, House of David season 2 has been greenlit by Amazon. That happened two weeks ago, and reportedly the series is already in production. The closest estimate we can get for a release date is to use another series similar in scope and topic, The Chosen, a show about Jesus Christ that has been running since 2017, technically, and now is airing movies in lieu of an actual final season. But the first four seasons? The dates:
- The Pilot – December 2017
- Season 1 – April 2019
- Season 2 – April 2021
- Christmas Special – December 2021
- Season 3 – December 2022
- Season 4 – June 2024
Between the full seasons, that’s 1 year, 2 years, and 1.5 years, the average being 1.5 based on that. Getting into more detail, production on season 4 begin in March 2023 for that June 2024 release. That was a gap of one year and three months. Given all this, that release date may be July 2026, if the way production works is similar on House of David. Stretching to 1.5 years, that would be October 2026.

So what’s happening next? Here’s what co-writer Jon Erwin said about season 2’s storyline: “If you want to begin to speculate now, [to]
talk about what you think the second season is going to be… Many of you are getting it really, really right.”
I’ve talked about this in a previous post, and here’s where the story of David goes from here in the Bible:
- David rejects attacking King Saul, even as he’s being hunted down for his rising popularity among the people.
- Saul does eventually die and David becomes King of Israel.
- This leads to David’s big sin of being tempted by the beautiful Bathsheba where he sends her husband out to die on purpose.
- Eventually, his son Absalom rebels against him, and he faces many, many other challenges from famine to war. When he’s old, he declares Solomon his heir.
It seems more than likely that season 2 is going to be about David feuding with King Saul and rising to power and becoming king himself. If a season 3 exists, that would be about him becoming King and his famous temptation. I’m not sure there would be another season after that, but I suppose that would be later in his reign as things start to go more and more poorly.
That’s what we know, and fans of the series should be happy that season 2 is on the way, and may not be that distant either.
