Packers coach Matt LaFleur (right) and former quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) spent four seasons … More
Matt LaFleur knows a good story when he sees one.
And the Green Bay Packers coach fully understands what Aaron Rodgers quarterbacking the Minnesota Vikings would mean.
“It would be a hell of a story, wouldn’t it?” LaFleur said Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings.
Boy, would it ever.
Rodgers played 18 seasons in Green Bay — more than anyone in franchise history. He won four MVP awards, led the Packers to a win in Super Bowl XLV and holds several team passing records.
The Packers traded Rodgers to the New York Jets in April, 2023, where he and the Jets bombed the last two seasons.
Rodgers lasted just four snaps in 2023 before tearing his left Achilles. Then in 2024, the Jets were seen as Super Bowl contenders before the season, but went just 5-12.
Rodgers was mediocre, at best, in 2024, finishing 25th in total QBR, 30th in completion percentage and 28th in yards per attempt among qualified passers. The Jets were also 3-7 in one score games as Rodgers repeatedly failed to deliver at crunch time.
The Jets released Rodgers on March 12, making him a free agent for the first time in his 20-year career.
Pittsburgh remains the favorite to sign Rodgers — who will turn 42 during the 2025 season. But Minnesota continues to show interest, as well, which would land Rodgers back in the NFC North with the chance to face the Packers twice a year.
“There’s great players on every team, so if it works out, it works out,” LaFleur said. “It’s not something that I’m going to sit there and constantly think about. Sure, you think about it the week of when you’re playing somebody. But if it works out, great for them.”
