Kendrick Lamar has spent the past year proving, once again, that he’s not just one of the most respected names in hip-hop, he’s also one of the most commercially successful. His 2024 single “Not Like Us” was an instant, massive hit, and has since become what may be his biggest chart success to date. That track alone has kept Lamar present inside the top 10 on quite a few Billboard charts this spring, and he’s only added fuel to the fire since it dropped.
In late 2024, Lamar dropped his latest full-length, GNX, and it was immediately clear that the project was going to be another high point in his already stellar career. Singles from the collection have continued to perform well months later. Now, as GNX continues to perform well, and “Not Like Us” refuses to fall, Lamar is adding more wins to his already incredible run — this time, thanks to his work with another hip-hop heavyweight.
Playboi Carti and Kendrick Lamar Share the Spotlight
This week, Lamar scores a pair of new top 10 hits on several Billboard charts, and he has Playboi Carti to thank for the boost. Carti, currently one of the hottest names in rap, rules the Billboard 200 with his new album Music. The set earns one of the largest debuts in recent memory, and the 30 songs included flood the rankings.
Lamar, who is featured on two songs from the album, is now part of that chart takeover. As Carti conquers the Billboard 200, Lamar picks up multiple new top 10s across a slew of other lists.
“Good Credit” Debuts Inside the Top 10
The biggest of Lamar and Carti’s joint hits right now is “Good Credit.” The tune debuts on eight Billboard charts, entering the top 10 on five of them. It performs best on a pair of genre-specific streaming rankings – the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and Rap Streaming Songs charts – where it opens at No. 5.
“Good Credit” also reaches the top 10 on the Streaming Songs list, which ranks the most-played tracks in the U.S. regardless of genre. It appears at No. 7 on that tally. It starts in the same position on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, where sales, streams, and airplay are factored into where a title lands.
Kendrick Lamar and Playboi Carti Join Jhené Aiko
The duo also sees another collaborative track open on the charts this week, and this time, there’s a third big name involved. Jhené Aiko joins them on the cut “Backdoor,” which also debuts across several Billboard lists.
“Backdoor” launches inside the top 10 on three different charts this frame. It starts at No. 8 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and Rap Streaming Songs rankings. On the Hot Rap Songs list, the track narrowly makes it into the highest tier, starting at No. 10.
Kendrick Lamar’s Billboard Legacy
Scoring a handful of top 10 hits in one week is impressive, but for Lamar, it’s almost a commonplace occurrence at this point. With his new entries, the rapper has now charted 34 top 10s on the Streaming Songs tally. That is, impressively, the lowest number among the charts he debuts on this period, as he has now reached 40 top 10s on several of the genre-specific rankings thanks to his latest appearances.
“Luther” with SZA Holds at No. 1
While Lamar is celebrating the arrival of multiple new hits, one of his older smashes is still holding strong. “Luther,” his collaboration with longtime friend SZA, continues to dominate the Hot 100. That track remains in charge this week, and it’s charting on more than a dozen lists at the same time.
