Kendrick Lamar dominates the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart with five entries, including GNX, … More
Kendrick Lamar’s legacy as one of the most influential rappers of his generation was secure long ago, but he hasn’t stopped proving his popularity across the globe throughout the years – and especially in just the past few months. While his singles are declining across all U.K. charts this week, his albums are telling a very different story.
This time around, Lamar returns to No. 1 on a key ranking, and he’s not just leading with one full-length. He currently claims five spots on the list of the top hip-hop and R&B titles in the country, and all of his present efforts are growing.
Kendrick Lamar Returns to No. 1 in the U.K.
This week, Lamar climbs back to the summit of the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart, which ranks the bestselling full-lengths in those two genres throughout the U.K. His newest project, GNX, improves from No. 2 to No. 1. The set replaces Clear Lake Auditorium by De La Soul, which tumbles to No. 6 in this frame.
GNX Has Already Ruled – Several Times
GNX has now spent eight total weeks on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart. It’s proven itself to be a consistent success, as only one of those frames has been spent outside the top two. So far, the full-length has now claimed five turns at No. 1.
Kendrick Lamar’s Catalog is on the Rise
While GNX leads the way, it’s not the only Lamar album that fans are listening to and buying in large enough numbers to send up the genre-focused chart. To Pimp a Butterfly rises sharply from No. 14 to No. 7, returning to the top tier. Damn also moves into the highest region again, lifting from No. 11 to No. 9. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City completes the trio of returning top 10s, shifting from No. 13 to No. 10.
Only one of Lamar’s five current wins fails to reach the top 10 on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart. Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers only enjoys a slight gain this week, moving up a few spaces from No. 40 to No. 37.
Every Kendrick Lamar Album Has Hit a No. 1
All five of Lamar’s projects that find space on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart this week have reached No. 1 in the past. Some did so not too many years back, while others were released more than a decade ago.
Only a single former top 10, Untitled Unmastered, doesn’t carve out a home on the tally this period. That set, which was not marketed as a proper album, once peaked at No. 2.
