Californication and Greatest Hits surge again on U.K. charts as the Red Hot Chili Peppers enjoy a … More
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are having a standout week in the United Kingdom – and it’s far from the first one for the band. The iconic rock outfit sees two of its most successful releases appear on multiple tallies across the pond. One title is returning after a brief absence, while the other is growing in stature. Together, they show just how much love there still is for the group’s catalog — even decades after some of these projects first dropped.
Californication Returns to the U.K. Rankings
When it comes to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ latest U.K. chart wins, the biggest story this time around is the return of Californication. The band’s seventh full-length, which has long been considered a classic of the alternative genre, is back on two different rankings this week.
The beloved release makes its way back to the Official Physical Albums chart, where it settles at No. 86. On the all-encompassing Official Albums Sales list, which tracks the bestselling full-lengths in the U.K. regardless of format, Californication finds itself at No. 90.
A Chart Legacy for Californication
Californication isn’t new to the U.K. rankings – it’s been found on these tallies many times before. On the Official Physical Albums chart, the title has now racked up 238 weeks. That’s significantly longer than its showing on the broader Official Albums Sales roster, where it’s now spent 57 frames.
The full-length has also historically performed better on the physical-only tally. It peaked as high as No. 5 there, whereas it only climbed to No. 21 on the general sales-focused list.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers’s Greatest Hits Continues to Rise
While Californication makes its return, another Red Hot Chili Peppers release is quietly climbing. The band’s Greatest Hits collection improves its standing on two major tallies this frame.
This week, Greatest Hits steps up to No. 49 on the Official Albums Streaming chart. That roster measures the most-played albums across platforms like Spotify and Apple Music in the U.K. It also rises on the main Official Albums tally, the 100-spot list of the most-consumed projects throughout the country, pushing forward to No. 62.
A Major Streaming Milestone for Greatest Hits
The Greatest Hits compilation also reaches a significant milestone on one of those tallies. This week marks its five-hundred-and-twentieth appearance on the Official Albums Streaming chart. The collection has now spent exactly a decade as one of the most-played albums in the U.K.
On the main Official Albums chart, Greatest Hits is also nearing a similar milestone. It’s now spent 447 weeks somewhere on that roster, and in just a few months, it might match its streaming success.
Californication was released back in 1999 and helped usher in a new era for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, led by singles like “Scar Tissue” and “Otherside.” The band’s Greatest Hits set arrived four years later in 2003, pulling together the biggest smashes from multiple eras. Now, both collections are surging at the same time, at least two decades after their original releases.
