Disney’s “Snow White” (2025)
Disney’s long-awaited and controversial live-action remake Snow White has finally arrived in theaters. But if you’re waiting to watch the Disney princess film at home, here’s what to know about its likely release on Disney+ and digital platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV+.
The 2025 film is a live-action remake of Walt Disney’s beloved 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which itself is based on the Brothers Grimm’s 1812 fairytale, “Snow White.” West Side Story star Rachel Zegler stars as Snow White, alongside Andrew Burnap (The Little Mermaid) as Snow White’s love interest Jonathan, and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) as the Evil Queen.
“A beautiful girl, Snow White, takes refuge in the forest in the house of seven dwarfs to hide from her stepmother, the wicked Queen,” the synopsis for the live-action remake reads. “The Queen is jealous because she wants to be known as “the fairest in the land,” and Snow White’s beauty surpasses her own.”
In an interview with Allure, 23-year-old Zegler shared that her growing understanding of what it means to be a Disney Princess mirrors her own journey into adulthood. “Snow White is on her own mission and she falls in love along the way, which is really awesome. That’s how life happens. You’re never looking for it, and then all of a sudden, it’s there,” she said. “You can have it all. It’s all possible. Because you are everything you’ve been wishing and waiting for.”
Amid ongoing controversy surrounding its release, Snow White has earned mixed reviews from critics. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter called it one of the stronger entries in Disney’s live-action remake lineup, praising the performances and “enchanting story-book world” visuals. Still, the film holds one of the lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores among Disney remakes, with a 46% critics rating based on 150 reviews.
