Romeo Santos’s Formula, Vol. 2 celebrates 520 weeks on the Top Latin Albums chart, marking a full … [+]
Romeo Santos became a Latin superstar nearly 15 years ago with the release of his debut album Formula, Vol. 1. It was that early drop’s follow-up, Formula, Vol. 2, however, that made him a true powerhouse in that space. That full-length brought the singer-songwriter to new heights, and it remains a favorite among millions of Spanish speakers – especially in America – to this day.
Romeo Santos Hits a Decade on One Chart
This week is special for Santos, and definitely for Formula, Vol. 2 on the Billboard charts. That collection has now spent 520 weeks — or an entire decade — on the Top Latin Albums ranking.
Formula, Vol. 2 is Santos’s first release to rack up 10 years on the list of the most-consumed Latin albums in America. It outpaces every other release by the musician by a huge margin.
Formula, Vol. 1 is his second-longest-charting success, and it’s not even close to matching the longevity of its successor. The first project, which introduced Santos to a huge audience, has collected 352 stays on the Top Latin Albums tally, losing to Formula, Vol. 2 by more than 150 weeks.
Formula, Vol. 2 is on the Rise
As it celebrates a decade on the Top Latin Albums chart, Formula, Vol. 2 is still performing spectacularly. The set rises one rung to No. 20. In the past, it has not only reached the highest spot, but it spent 11 weeks running the show.
Romeo Santos Joins Selena and Aventura
Formula, Vol. 2 is the only title present on the Top Latin Albums list with 500 or more weeks to its credit. Just a handful of others have reached 400 frames, including Aventura’s Todavía Me Amas: Lo Mejor de Aventura and ones by Selena.
Romeo Santos’s Singles with Drake and Marc Anthony
Santos promoted Formula, Vol. 2 for well over a year with a number of singles, including collaborations with superstars like Marc Anthony and Drake. The project produced his biggest hit, “Propuesta Indecente.” That tune only climbed to No. 79 on the Hot 100, but it has so far been certified 65-times platino by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).
Formula, Vol. 2’s Many Certifications
Formula, Vol. 2 is, unsurprisingly, Santos’s highest-certified full-length. According to that organization, it has thus far racked up 31 platino plaques. Latin albums earn a platino certification after shifting 60,000 equivalent units. For reference, Santos’s second-highest-certified offering, Formula, Vol. 1, is only up to 15-times platino.
