Jimin’s “Who” ties BTS’s “Dynamite” as the longest-charting K-pop song on the Hot 100, reinforcing … [+]
Throughout his years as a global superstar, Jimin has been blessed with incredible success on the Hot 100. He first racked up smash after smash as a member of BTS, and since the group has been on hiatus, he’s proved his hitmaking ability as a soloist.
Jimin has managed quite a few historic firsts on the Hot 100. He’s matched with other superstars, and in many cases, passed them, and accomplished things that may have seemed impossible only a few days ago. He has demonstrated his prowess to not only send a tune to the highest reaches of the ranking, but keep it going for long stretches of time.
When it comes to his solo output, Jimin stands out for all the right reasons. This week, he earns a new spot in the history books as his current single, “Who,” continues to find space on the Hot 100.
Jimin’s “Who” Makes Hot 100 History
As that tune keeps on Billboard’s list of the most-consumed songs throughout the nation, it ties with BTS’s “Dynamite” as the longest-charting track of all time by any South Korean musical outfit. Both songs have managed 32 stays somewhere on the list, and Jimin could pass BTS when Billboard refreshes the rankings once more.
“Like Crazy” Was an Important No. 1
Jimin is not only successful when it comes to creating a sturdy smash, but also a chart-topper. In the past, he’s also ruled the Hot 100, which is an extremely uncommon sight for South Korean musical acts, especially those working on their own.
Jimin is now one of just two K-pop solo artists to score a No. 1 on the Hot 100. His track “Like Crazy” opened in first place in mid-2023, making him the first artist working on his own from the K-pop genre to do so. He was followed only a few months later by his BTS bandmate Jungkook, and the two are the only soloists to manage the showing, though the septet has collected half a dozen leaders as well.
As of this week, Jimin now claims the highest-rising hit of all time by a K-pop soloist (one of them, at least) as well as the longest-charting. He doesn’t manage those showings with the same tune, but with just a handful of songs on his own and two projects under his belt, what Jimin has been able to manage throughout his solo career is nothing short of incredible.
