The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells is much-loved. And it has been for a solid decade.
In the annual end-of-season awards handed out by the men’s and women’s professional tennis tours, the ATP and WTA, respectively, the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells was named the top ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 Tournament of the Year for the 10th straight year, as determined by player vote.
“We are honored that for a remarkable 10 years in a row, ATP and WTA players have voted Indian Wells as the premier 1000-level event on the tour,” says Tommy Haas, tournament director. “This unprecedented achievement is a testament to the unwavering commitment to excellence of our tournament staff and volunteers, as well as the dedicated support of our owner Larry Ellison, our sponsors, our fans and so many others who contribute to the success of our event.”

The 2024 BNP Paribas Open welcomed a record-breaking 493,440 fans over the course of the two-week event in spring 2024. The tournament awarded more than $19 million in prize money to the players, with Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek winning their respective draws.

Between the ATP, WTA and Fila International Junior Championships, the 2024 event hosted 500 players from 48 countries. It also became the first 1000-level event to host a mixed doubles competition.
The tournament credits its “unique tournament atmosphere” as the reason it is so admired. Officials have worked to increase the level of comfort and ease for players both on the grounds and around the site and invested to improve the dining options, player facilities, practice courts and amenities. The fans enjoy the upgrades too, with their own updated dining options and up-close access to players at the practice courts.
The tournament also won the WTA award in 2013, making this year the 11th straight on the women’s side, while capturing 15 such awards overall.

The ATP and WTA gives awards for the top tournament in all three levels of tournaments, the 100, 500 and 250. With the BNP Paribas Open sweeping the top spot on both tours, the women’s-only Charleston Open won its third straight WTA 500 Tennis Tournament of the Year award.
The largest women’s-only tennis tournament in North America was selected from among 18 WTA 500 tournaments worldwide. “I’m incredibly proud of the team for earning the distinction of Tournament of the Year three years in a row for the Credit One Charleston Open,” says Bob Moran, president of Beemok sports & Entertainment. “It’s not just about putting on a great tennis tournament, it’s about creating an unforgettable experience for the players, fans and the entire community.”
The spring tournament will celebrate 25 years in Charleston in 2025, having moved from Hilton Head Island in 2001. The event has seen growth in recent years, due in part to the renovation and modernization of Credit One Stadium. The nine-day event showcases a singles draw of 48 players, a qualifying draw of 24 players and a doubles draw of 16 teams. The tournament traditionally hosts more than 90,000 attendees on Daniel Island.
The ATP named the Cinch Championships at the Queen’s Club in London as its top ATP 500 event for the third straight year and sixth year overall.
For the 250-level tournaments, the Qatar ExxonMobil Open won the award for the sixth time on the men’s side, having earned the honor most recently in 2022. In 2025, the Doha-based event will move up and operate as an ATP 500 tournament.
On the women’s side, the Hong Kong Tennis Open was named the WTA 250 Tournament of the Year for the first time since 2018. WTA legend Li Na became the tournament director in 2024, helping improve the event from a players’ perspective.
