Does New Horror Comedy ‘The Monkey’ Have A Post-Credits Scene?

Longlegs director Osgood Perkins’ new horror comedy The Monkey is in theaters. Is there anything after the last scene in the film that you should stick around for?

Perkins wrote and directed Longlegs, a 2024 hit horror thriller starring Nicolas Cage as a demented serial killer. Perkins also directed and wrote the screenplay for The Monkey, which is based on a short story by Stephen King, while James Wan—the filmmaker behind the Insidious saga and The Conjuring universe of films, produced the film.

The official logline for The Monkey—which opens in theaters nationwide on Friday—reads, “When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.”

Theo James stars as the twin brothers, Hal and Bill, in The Monkey. The cast also includes Perkins, Tatiana Maslany and Elijah Wood.

What Happens During Or After The Credits Of ‘The Monkey’?

End credits scenes or post-credits scenes generally serve one of two purposes for a film. They either tie up loose ends from a scene presented earlier in the film or they suggest that a sequel may be on the way.

There are also times when the presentation of the credits alone has some sort of meaning tied to the film. Before he wrote and directed The Monkey, Osgood Perkins got creative with the end credits of Longlegs.

While there wasn’t an additional scene, the credits rolled from the bottom of the screen instead of from the top of the screen, presumably an ode to “the man downstairs” who was mentioned in the film since Nicolas Cage’s title character in Longlegs is a devil worshipper.

Perkins gives viewers of The Monkey a bit more after the credits, even though it’s not a post-credits scene. Instead, Perkins attaches a series of quick scenes from his next horror film, a cabin-in-the-woods horror thriller called Keeper. The film’s title treatment after the clips also includes the tagline, “A dark trip from Osgood Perkins” and notes that the film is coming “soon.”

It makes sense that a teaser for Keeper is attached after the credits for The Monkey. Neon—the indie distributor who brought Longlegs and The Monkey to the big screen—is also distributing Keeper.

The Monkey star Tatiana Maslany also stars in Keeper, as does Rossif Sutherland—the son of late acting great Donald Sutherland and half-brother of fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland.

The official synopsis for Keeper reads, “During an anniversary getaway at a remote cabin, a wife (Maslany) is left alone after her husband (Sutherland) departs, only to confront a sinister presence that exposes the cabin’s chilling past.”

Keeper is set for an Oct. 3 theatrical release.

Rated R, The Monkey is playing in theaters nationwide.
