Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid is considering seeking ‘asylum’ in another foreign league and leaving La Liga according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

Los Blancos are once more at loggerheads with the Spanish top flight, its president Javier Tebas, and match officials following a series of perceived injustices as of late.

An ongoing current row was triggered by eventual goalscorer Carlos Romero not being red carded for hacking down Kylian Mbappe from behind in a 1-0 loss to Espanyol a fortnight ago.

Tebas said that Madrid had “lost their minds” over an injustice campaign it embarked upon, which included publishing a critical, strongly-worded official statement.

At the weekend, head coach Carlo Ancelotti further criticized refereeing after his midfielder Jude Bellingham was sent off. He also quipped that VAR “must have been turned off” in a 1-1 draw to Osasuna, which has gifted FC Barcelona the chance to return to the top of the league by beating Rayo Vallecano on Monday.

Madrid simultaneously has a huge assignment ahead of it because of a Champions League playoffs second leg showdown against Manchester City at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, where it will lead 3-2 on aggregate because of its comeback in northwestern England during the first meeting.

If the club actually went ahead with a sensational potential switch it is reportedly considering, however, playing on foreign soil could become a far more regular occurrence beyond participation in the competition it has won a record 15 times.

After sounding out moving to the Premier League a couple of years ago, Madrid would this time focus on France, Italy or Germany as a possible next destination.

To actually make that happen, though, President Florentino Perez would need approval from FIFA to request a change of competition with La Liga’s green light, before then seeking permission from UEFA with whom it is also in conflict because of previous support for the European Super League.

One thing is for sure, the relationship between Madrid and Tebas seems to have never been as sour.

According to SPORT, the club feels that the La Liga chief has turned other Spanish clubs against it while leading an anti-Madrid “crusade” because he feels threatened by the Super League project.
